    A roadside station located at the entrance to Sakurajima floating in Kagoshima Bay. At the adjoining Hinoshima Megumi-kan building, visitors can enjoy unique Sakurajima home cooking and purchase local specialty products. Of particular note is the Sakurajima komikan orange, said to have been brought to Sakurajima 400 years ago by Shimazu Yoshihiro, lord of Satsuma Domain. The smallest mikan (mandarin) orange in the world, its simple flavor is very close to that of the uncultivated ancestor to modern mikan oranges. Located along National Route 224.

    A roadside station located a five-minute drive from JR Satsuma-Imaizumi Station. Situated on a scenic point with a commanding view of the sea, the station is also not far from such sightseeing destinations as Lake Ikeda, Kaimondake Volcano, and Chiringashima Island. Ibusuki City is a scenic driving destination known for its connection to the popular historical figure, “Atsuhime,” and the station sells an “Atsuhime Burger” and other Ibusuki specialty products, original cookies made with broad beans, and soft serve ice cream. The station’s seafood is so fresh professional chefs working at local ryotei restaurants come here to stock their ingredients. The Komaki Chaya soba noodle restaurant inside the station is also popular.

    指宿温泉に向かう途中で、寄ってみました。 タンカンが大好きなので、タンカンとデコポンを買い、親戚の家にも送りました。 帰宅して、食べてみたら両方ともとても美味しかったです。

    A roadside station situated along National Route 223 in Kirishima City. 670 meters above sea level, the station also boasts a sweeping view of the area. The Hotto Kirishimakan building has a restaurant which serves Kirishima specialties like Berkshire pork tonkatsu breaded pork cutlet, pork cutlet curry, and Berkshire pork shabu-shabu set meals. The adjoining shop sells specialty products like Berkshire pork miso, blueberry juice, and Satsuma Tin ware. The station is adjoined by “Kirishima Shinwanosato Park”, a vast, nature-rich leisure ground where visitors can enjoy leisure activities like a sightseeing lift.

    霧島神話の里公園から坂をちょっと下ると道の駅霧島の駐車場に到着しました。駐車場は建物の奥にあってちょっとわかりにくく車もお客さんも少なかったです。直売所はあまり農産物の数が多くなく、麦味噌くらいしか目に留まるものはありませんでした。霧島神話の里公園と一体化させて楽しむ道の駅なんだと思いました。

Facing the majestic beauty of the East China Sea, the station is the first one situated along National Route 3. Facilities include an information counter with information on area roads and roadside stations as well as terminals and bulletin boards offering information on nearby medical institutions and weather conditions. Making use of the bounties of both sea and land found in the area, the station’s local specialty products market sells local seafood, vegetables, and specialty products made from the same. The seafood served by the station’s restaurant is quite popular and the establishment serves set meals made with ingredients like silver-stripe round herring, a spring delicacy in Akune.

The Yahata Onsen Hoyokan building houses hot spring baths, a shop, and restaurant. There’s also a popular indoor pool area with a 53-meter-long water slide, and a multipurpose ground where visitors can enjoy golfing. The station’s large indoor bath and lie down bath are supplied by an alkaline simple hot spring whose waters are said to treat nerve pain and joint pain. Visitors can relax and refresh both body and mind in this casual hot spring resort. The station’s popular store is filled with Kiire exclusive products like local miso and chiffon cake.

    A roadside station which carries a wide selection of local specialty products located a five-minute drive from the Sueyoshitakarabe interchange on the Kyushu Expressway. In the seasonal market area, there’s a farmer’s market selling fresh produce and local specialty products. The foods made with yuzu, a citrus fruit which is a Sueyoshi specialty product, are particularly popular. Other facilities include a restaurant, exhibition space and multipurpose hall, and craft workshop room. The restaurant, a certified Kagoshima Local Production for Local Consumption Promotion Establishment, is so popular lines of waiting customers form outside its door during lunch time. Lunch is served all-you-can-eat buffet style, and diners can enjoy an astonishing variety of Western, Japanese, and Chinese dishes made with local ingredients.

    A large rest stop, one of the largest in Kagoshima. The facility’s distinctive sign is decorated with a large Sakurajima daikon radish statue. The first floor of the facility is a market where visitors can purchase shochu liquor and other Sakurajima specialty products. In the second-floor restaurant, you can enjoy a meal along with a view of the magnificent, mountainous landscape of Sakurajima. Visitors can also view the volcano from the facility’s observatory, and there’s even a space for taking a commemorative photo.

    1階がお土産屋さん、2階がレストランになっています。桜島大根を使ったお土産や火山灰を使用したお土産もあります。大きな桜島大根が目印です-

    A roadside station located a 15-minute drive from JR Sendai Station. The station is situated at the entranceway to the Ichihino Onsen, a renowned hot spring district. The station is outfitted with a tourist information center as well as a free foot bath perfect for easing away the fatigue of a weary traveler. The footbath is supplied by a colorless, odorless mildly alkaline spring whose waters are said to treat a broad array of ailments, including nerve pain, rheumatism, beriberi, joint inflammation, and women’s diseases. Other facilities include a casual Japanese diner-style restaurant and a farmer’s market which carries vaunted Satsumasendai City specialty products like pickles, porcelain, and bamboo work goods.

    道の駅スタンプは本館建物の裏手にあり場所が少々分かりにくいのが難点です。毎月2or3週目の水曜日が休みなのでスタンプ収集の方などは注意が必要です。店内は観光客より地元の人が多い印象を受けました。足湯があったそうですが、急いでいたこともあり見つけることはできず・・・あs

    A lodging and activity facility adjoining Roadside Station Kuni-no-Matsubara Osaki located a 30-minute drive from Kanoya City on National Route 220 traveling towards Shibushi. Facilities include a hotel, hot spring bathhouse, restaurant, and shop. In the Shoin no Yu bathhouse, visitors can enjoy bathing in the skin beautifying waters of a hydrogen carbonate spring; the bathhouse has a private bath which can be used with a wheelchair. The restaurant serves chicken nanban made with flavorful Sakurajima-dori chicken and oju lunch boxes made with local eel from Osaki Town. The local specialty products shop sells fresh vegetables and seafood, gifts, souvenirs, and shochu.

    以前は道の駅あすぱる大崎の指定管理としてレストランに入って居ましたが近年指定管理を外れてから運営していません。 他に道の駅喜入などにも参入して居る業者で内容は結構良いレストラン経営です。 お風呂に入った後にこのレストランでビールを飲む二は適して居ました。

The Yagoro Farmer’s Market, also located on the station’s grounds, sells seasonal vegetables, meats and animal products, and processed foods. The adjoining restaurant can seat 80 and serves soba noodles made with local buckwheat flour among other dishes. The restaurant also offers a reservation required soba noodle making class. Class takers can enjoy their noodles on the spot or bring them home to share with friends and family.

    日替わりランチ500円のレストランは11-16時に間に合わず利用できませんでした。不定期に休みがあるようなので注意が必要です。建物内には黒豚や野菜、加工品などを売っていましたがお客さんの姿は少なく少々寂しいです・・・

Over 100 active volcanoes across Kagoshima make it one of the Japan's most exciting prefectures. The prefectural capital, Kagoshima city, looks out to one of the prefecture's most spectacular volcanoes, Sakurajima, an island of its own that can be visited and seen close up or admired from afar, with the promise of breathtaking sunsets complete with frequent puffs of smoke and ash. Down the Satsuma Peninsula, the most southerly part of mainland Japan, waterfalls, sand onsen, and fascinating history await, while Kagoshima's abundance of satsuma imo (sweet potato) provide a wholesome snack as well as one of Japan's favourite drinks - shochu.
