    Kagoshima Kimotsuki-gun Minamiosumicho

Lovely spot. We accidentally went to the wrong parking lot first- theres one that leads to an area at the top of the falls, but we wanted to walk along the river and see the bottom of the falls...

Cascading down from an exhilarating height of 88 meters Oko-no-Taki Waterfall is the largest of Yakushima’s waterfalls and has been selected as one of Japan’s top 100 waterfalls. Since visitors can walk directly down to the plunge basin, it is recommended to get up close and feel the intensity of the falls and experience the spray of the falls. Located close by is the Oko Yusui spring where water is bubbling forth from the ground, and this has also been selected as one of Japan’s top 100 exquisite and well-conserved waters. Take Yakushima Kotsu’s bus bound for Oko-no-Taki, get off at the final stop, and from there it is a three-minute walk.

This waterfall is located in the Kida area of Kajiki-cho, Aira City. A large waterfall that 46 meters high and 43 meters wide, it is said to have been named because people from China who visited long ago said that it looked like the Dragon's Gate Falls in China. Known as a famous spot in Satsuma from long age, it has been chosen as one of the 100 Elections of the Waterfall in Japan. It is also illuminated in the nighttime.

This vast nature reserve is maintained on the vast site of Fukumoto Basin, which covers approximately 20 hectares. In the Mountain Stream Zone, there is a waterfall called Materiya-no-Taki, where the sunlight's reflections create a mysterious atmosphere. Visitors can also swim in the basin of the waterfall in the summer. There are also two more zones, which are the Play Zone and the Water Zone, where visitors can experience all that Amami Forest has to offer.

Kagoshima Areas

around-area-map

Over 100 active volcanoes across Kagoshima make it one of the Japan's most exciting prefectures. The prefectural capital, Kagoshima city, looks out to one of the prefecture’s most spectacular volcanoes, Sakurajima, an island of its own that can be visited and seen close up or admired from afar, with the promise of breathtaking sunsets complete with frequent puffs of smoke and ash. Down the Satsuma Peninsula, the most southerly part of mainland Japan, waterfalls, sand onsen, and fascinating history await, while Kagoshima's abundance of satsuma imo (sweet potato) provide a wholesome snack as well as one of Japan's favourite drinks - shochu.
