A Shinto shrine dedicated to Japan’s first emperor, Emperor Jinmu. Many of the shrine’s buildings are registered as Tangible Cultural Properties, including the main shrine building, which is unusually made with whole cedar logs. The Shinko Festival, a 140 year old festival in which the god of the shrine is paraded outside, is held on a Saturday and a Sunday at the end of October and is one of Miyazaki Prefecture’s top festivals. Oshirafuji, the largest wisteria tree in the country and a designated Natural Monument, stands on the shrine grounds; mid-April is the best time to see it in bloom. A 10-minute walk from JR Miyazaki-Jingu Station.

This is a roadside station in Miyazaki City. Located near the Horikiri Pass on the Nichinan Coast it is a great spot to take a break while on a drive. The observation deck overlooks the wave-like rocks known as the demon's laundry rocks and the ocean. Soft serve ice cream made from Miyazaki mango, hyuganatsu citrus, ashitaba (Angelica keiskei) and other special produce are popular, and special local products are also available at the onsite store.

My stopover when I drive to nichinan. Especially if the weather is sunny you can enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Ocean.

This zoo opened in 1971 and houses 1,600 animals of 80 different kinds. Inside there is an Asian elephant exhibition, African park, camel park, ape house and children’s animal village, and with the various exhibitions, amusement park, restaurants and shops available, one can certainly enjoy the whole day here. During summer the entrance fee also allows visitors to use the 200-meter-long water-slide equipped pool, which is crowded with children every year.

I stayed at Sheraton Grande Ocean Resort nearby and get to this zoo by free hotel shuttle bus. So it’s easy to get access to. I spent half day (almost 5 hours) from 12:00noon to 5:00pm with my...

This long-standing Western restaurant opened in 1956, in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture. It is one of the restaurants said to have devised the Miyazaki’s specialty Chicken Nanban. The restaurant prides itself on its Chicken Nanban, made with tender chicken breast meat, cooked and immediately covered in sweet vinegar and a homemade tartar sauce. Locals and tourists alike line up to buy it. The old-fashioned interior, styled like a Western town restaurant, is also quite appealing.

Visited this restaurant to enjoy the renowned nanban chicken in Miyazaki with my friend. Staff is helpful and service is quick. The location is a bit hard to find but persevere and you’ll be rewarded...

"This is a shrine known as “the birthplace of misogi (purification)” and ""the birthplace of norito (ritual prayer)”. Many worshipers visit the shrine as a place of healing. The deities of Izanami-no-mikoto and Izanagi-no-mikoto are enshrined here, and the shrine is also known as the mother of the two pillars of Daimyojin and because of this, local residents call the shrine “Yabo-sama”. Eda Kagura (Shinto music and dancing) are performed in dedication every year during the spring and autumn festivals."

This science museum has one of the world's largest planetariums. Outside is a 40-meter-tall full-scale mockup of an H1 rocket and inside is a replica of the Apollo 11 Lunar Lander Module. The planetarium shows three shows per day, each approximately 50 minutes long. The shows explore that evening's night sky with explanations from popular characters from space-themed anime. There's also hand on exhibitions, including a simulation where you can try controlling a spaceship, making this a great place to bring kids to. The museum is a two-minute walk from JR Miyazaki Station.

We visited just the museum, not the observatory. As we knew the ground floor of the museum was devoted to space, we went hoping to learn about the past and current Japanese space programme. We...

There are a number of parfaits on the menu that can only be found in this particular store, including items that are only available during certain seasons. Customers can freely choose their own toppings to go with the soft-serve ice cream. The store is approximately 15 minutes on foot from the JR Miyazaki Station.

A 15-minute drive from Miyazaki Airport or the Miyazaki Interchange on the Miyazaki Expressway. This large amusement park, sprawling in front of the Sea of Hyuga and commanding a view of Aoshima, was opened in 1939. The park's design makes use of a river, hills, and other natural terrain features, and children can run around and play using park facilities such as Adventure Land, which consists of five pieces of playground equipment made with cedar wood; a tree house; and Canadian canoes. Subtropical plants found in the south of Japan such as sago palms and crinum grow on the grounds; seasonal flowers are also grown here, including Japanese camellias and 3,500 rose plants spanning 300 varieties.

I use to take my children here ! I came here for the first time in 10 years! I remember when i was younger! The ocean just in front of you!

A restaurant specializing in Miyazaki beef located in the West Building of the Miyazaki Kanko Hotel. The teppanyaki performance, in which a dedicated chef cooks select Miyazaki beef right in front of you, is particularly popular. The restaurant is divided into teppanyaki seating which is focused on steak meals, and yakiniku (grill your own barbecue) seating; the restaurant also has seating and private rooms from which you can enjoy a superb view of the Oyodo River. This day-use hot spring bathhouse is just a 10-minute walk from the Miyazaki Station on the JR Nippo Main Line, Indoors there is the Shizen-no-Yu bath with natural spring water, the powerful jet water bath and the shape-up bath that refresh and revive your tired body. The outdoor baths are the beautiful designed natural rock bath, and the bath made of fragrant Japanese cypress which gives one the sense of bathing in the woods, and the Pavilion of Heated Ore that is slated with natural energy stones excavated from Mt. Sobo and the Katamukiyama mountain ranges. Shampoo and hair rinse are provided, and toiletries such as razors and toothbrushes are for sale on site.

The park’s spacious grounds offer a sweeping view of Miyazaki City and its open grass lawn, athletics field, and children’s play area make it a popular destination for a great many visitors from both in and outside the prefecture. The park’s Peace Tower, erected in 1940 to mark the 2,600th year since the founding of Japan, stands 37 meters high. An impressive piece of architecture, its appearance seems to change depending on the viewing angle and the light of the day.
