    Oita Kunisaki-shi Akimachi Futago 1594-1
This restaurant and souvenir shop, a 30-minute drive from Oita Airport, is located at the entrance to the approach to the Futago-ji Temple in the center of the Rokugo Manzan temples. The restaurant serves soba noodles made with famous spring water and dishes crafted from fresh local ingredients. Particularly popular selections include the Kaiun Soba meal, which includes cold zaru soba noodles as well as six small side dishes; and the Tenzaru Soba meal, which comes with zaru soba noodles and crispy, piping hot tempura made with seasonal vegetables. The hot Kamo Negi Soba noodles, just the thing to enjoy on a cold day, are served in a broth which perfectly pairs an abundance of locally grown spring onions with the rich flavor of duck. The omelet rice, made with tori meshi chicken rice, is also recommended. Pets are allowed in the restaurant's terrace seating area.

    六郷満山でメインの両子寺すぐのレストラン。この辺りには食事が出来るところが少ないこともあり、空腹になったら立ち寄っておきたい店です。

This souvenir store is located inside Roadside Station Kunisaki on National Route 213 a 10-minute drive from the Oita Airport. The store's tempura and kamaboko steamed fish paste made with Himedako octopus and largehead hairtail, local Kunisaki specialty products, are particularly popular. The store also carries local sakes and shochus, such as Kayashima Sake Brewing's Nishinoseki refined sakes, and Minami Shuzo's Toppai authentic barley shochu. Kunisaki is the only place in Japan where Shichito-mat rush is grown, and the store's Shichito zori sandals, a unique Kunisaki product, are also popular. Additionally, the store sells lottery tickets, and after buying some, visitors are recommended to stop by Tomiku Shrine, which is said to increase one's luck in winning the lottery.
  • Ogawa Farm

    Oita Bungotakada-shi Kodawara 557-1
This tourist farm is surrounded by the Katsura River to the east, west, and north. The farm grows strawberries using raised platforms in plastic greenhouses on its 50-hectare grounds. Making maximum use of its naturally lush location at the foot of a mountain, the farm uses tree scraps from the area for fuel and humus. Visitors can enjoy picking Beni Hoppe and three other varieties of strawberries generally from late March to early May. For 40 minutes, customers can pick and eat as many strawberries as they like. In addition to families with children, the farm is a great destination for couples. In December, the farm also sells strawberries packaged to give as gifts.

    Oita Kunisaki-shi Akimachi Shimobaru 2235

Oita Areas

around-area-map

A trip to Oita is tantamount to a long soak in the Beppu baths. The mountainous, coastal prefecture of Oita is renowned for having more onsen than any other prefecture in Japan, most of which lie in the city of Beppu on the west coast of Kyushu, recognizable by its pungent sulphuric aroma and the clouds of steam that puff up across the hillside. Away from the Beppu hot springs await mountains, waterfalls, and temples, so don’t hesitate to explore Oita a little further.
