  • Kokonoe Yume Suspension Bridge
    Travel / Tourism
    Oita Pref. Kusugunkokonoemachi Tano 1208
A bridge 173 meters high and 390 meters long. Completed in 2006, it is the longest pedestrian bridge in Japan. The scenery from the bridge is, in a word, superb, and those traversing its length can get sweeping views of such sights as Narukogawa Ravine and a stunning Shindo-no-taki waterfall, with larger and smaller sub-waterfalls. Visiting in fall to see the autumn foliage is particularly recommended.
  • Yunotsubo-Kaido Street
    Travel / Tourism
    Oita Pref. Yufushi Yufuinchoukawakami
A road located in Kawakami, Yufuin-cho, Yufu City. Serving as Yufuin’s “Main Street,” the road extends away from Yufuin Station towards Mt. Yufu and is lined with a variety of restaurants, cafes, and shops selling local specialty products.

    Oita Yufu-shi Yufuincho Kawakami 1964-14
"A 15-minute drive from the Yufuin Interchange on the Oita Expressway. This observatory is located at the foot of Mt. Yufu and offers a sweeping view of the Yufuin Basin from 680 meters above sea level. Situated between Yufuin and Beppu along the Yamanami Highway (Prefectural Route 11), known as one of the most scenic driving destinations in Kyushu, the observatory has a shop and toilets and thus is also a popular rest stop. Boasting fabulous seasonal views, the observatory's name literally translates to ""mist stand,"" and as this implies, mists gather in the valley below, particularly early in the morning in winter, and during this time visitors can take in the magical sight of the fog-enshrouded basin."

    狭霧台展望台にある土産物店です。数人分だけですが、イートイン可能なカウンター席あり。トイレは店外方式。先日そのトイレを借りたので、お返し的にまぐろジャーキーをお買い上げ。土産物の品揃えはそこそこ。

Oita Areas

around-area-map

A trip to Oita is tantamount to a long soak in the Beppu baths. The mountainous, coastal prefecture of Oita is renowned for having more onsen than any other prefecture in Japan, most of which lie in the city of Beppu on the west coast of Kyushu, recognizable by its pungent sulphuric aroma and the clouds of steam that puff up across the hillside. Away from the Beppu hot springs await mountains, waterfalls, and temples, so don’t hesitate to explore Oita a little further.
