    Oita Pref. Yufushi Yufuinchoukawakami 2633-1
A souvenir shop operated by the Kamenoi Besso high class inn in Yufuin, Yufu City, Oita Prefecture which sells signature foods and locally-made crafts. The shop’s jams, lovingly made with seasonal fruit primarily from Oita Prefecture, are popular for how the flavor and fragrances of the ingredients come through in the finished product. The winter only “yuzu-neri” jam is so popular it disappears from the shelves very fast but makes an excellent gift if you can get your hands on it. The interior of the shop, located inside a late Edo period merchant’s house, is charming and subdued.

    乾燥柚子を買いました。 400円程度でしたが、自宅に戻って、そばなどに入れると、とても風味豊かで美味しかったです。

This aizome indigo dyed goods shop stands on Yunotsubo-dori Street. Working with studios and dyers, the shop carries domestically produced aizome indigo dyed goods made without the use of chemical dyes. Inside, the shop is filled with blouses, dresses, T-shirts, stoles, and other clothing items, as well as everyday items such as tenugui hand towels, noren dividing curtains, bags, and cloth. As its products are dyed by hand, no two are alike. Japanese-style antique furniture items and bamboo and driftwood shelves are used to display the shop's products, engendering a relaxing atmosphere in which customers can take their time looking at what's on offer.

    藍染めの暖簾に「藍」と大きく書かれていて、分かりやすい店舗です。駅から歩いていき、湯布院中央児童公園を越えてちょっとところにあります。和風雑貨のお店ですが、価値のわかる年配向けかと思いました。

This chopstick shop is located near Lake Kinrin. The shop's chopsticks are diligently crafted using choice woods from Oita Prefecture and other parts of Kyushu. Inside the shop, decorated in modern Japanese style, you'll find chopsticks for men, women, and children in an array of sizes made with around a dozen different woods. There are a veritable infinite variety of grips and colors, practically guaranteeing you'll find a pair you'll love. The shop also sells chopstick rests, chopstick wrappers, butter knives, and jam spoons. Oita Areas

around-area-map

A trip to Oita is tantamount to a long soak in the Beppu baths. The mountainous, coastal prefecture of Oita is renowned for having more onsen than any other prefecture in Japan, most of which lie in the city of Beppu on the west coast of Kyushu, recognizable by its pungent sulphuric aroma and the clouds of steam that puff up across the hillside. Away from the Beppu hot springs await mountains, waterfalls, and temples, so don’t hesitate to explore Oita a little further.
