    Kumamoto Aso-gun Takamorimachi Takamori 1645
This sake brewery in Takamori Town is encircled by the five peaks and southern outer crater rim of Mt. Aso. Since it was founded in 1762, the brewery has continued to make sake utilizing the Aso region's extreme differences of heat and cold, and using pure underground spring water from Mt. Aso and Aso rice. The brewery's most popular brand, Reizan, has a crisp flavor and is designed to accompany meals. Amidst a boom in ginjo sakes in which many breweries are pursuing exceedingly fragrant beverages, this brewery continues to be dedicated to the production of traditional flavors which remain beloved by area residents and others. The brewery also offers tastings of its products, making it fun to find your favorite.

A multipurpose tourist facility home to Rose Garden Aso, a rose garden boasting some 400 varieties of roses and 4,500 individual rose bushes which blossom in the spring and fall. There is also a strawberry garden and a restaurant serving Japanese Brown beef. The scheduled opening of the rose garden is from the end of April. As portions of National Route 57 are unusable due to the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake, visitors traveling by car are encouraged to take Kumamoto Prefectural Road 339 from Ozu-machi, Kikuchi-gun and get on National Route 57 from Akamizu in Aso City. A 10-minute walk from JR Aso Station.

If you are on the way from Beppu to Kumamoto or simply visiting Aso, here is where you can relax and have a nice lunch. The cafe set up is great. Can go with a cheese taster. There is a rose garden...

A tourist farm where you can go fruit picking and take in a view of majestic Mt. Aso. In fall, the farm offers apple and grape picking and, from winter through spring, strawberry picking. Amazingly, fruit picking requires no advance reservation, is time unlimited, and all-you-can-eat. The farm makes use of organic cultivation techniques and grows its apples without pesticides, and its safe, healthy fruits are one of the reasons behind its popularity. The farm's cafe serves homemade apple pie, specially made jams, and soft serve ice cream with strawberries in it, making it an irresistible stop for sweets-lovers.

  • Mt. Aso Nakadake Crater
    Travel / Tourism
    Kumamoto Aso-shi Kurokawa
Mt. Aso is the central volcanic cone group of the calderas, some of the largest in the world, located in Kumamoto Prefecture's Aso region. The five peaks of Mt. Aso span 17 kilometers east-west, 25 kilometers north-south, and occupy some 350 quare kilometers in area, but of them, today only Mt. Naka is active. The crater lake in Mt. Naka's primary crater was formed by the collection of rain and spring water in the crater bottom and is one of only a few places in the world where visitors can experience volcanic activity up close. The entire area is finely divided into numerous zones, and access to each area is permitted or prohibited based on the volcano's activity and the direction of the winds. The emerald green waters of the crater lake, created due to colloidal sulfur and iron ions dissolved into them, is a truly mystical site which speaks of the natural forces at play deep inside the planet.
