    This roadside station is in Ozu Town, Kikuchi County. Its specialty shop sells items from around the prefecture, as well as handicrafts, daily essentials, and women's clothes. Their popular taiyaki treats are made with sweet potatoes (the region grows the most in the prefecture). You can watch vendors make ikinari dango dumplings, a Kumamoto favorite, as well as spicy mustard filled lotus root. The restaurant serves fare like gyudon beef rice bowl, steak, and yakiniku (Japanese style barbecue) featuring the local Aka beef.

    This roadside station on National Route 3 sells fresh produce, rice, and jagadango potato dumplings when the potatoes are newly harvested. The eatery serves the local favorite known as dago dumpling soup, and their Mokuyu-kan has workshops in woodcraft and making stone oven-baked pizzas. You can also enjoy strolls through the natural surroundings as well as their family pool in the summer.

    熊本市から北にある菊池市の中心部に向かう国道３８７号線。北上していくと、右手に道の駅泗水がありました。 道の駅には「養生市場」と大きく書かれた物産センターがありました。この「養生市場」は、その名の通り「安心・安全」をモットーに無農薬や低農薬で栽培された農作物とその加工品がたくさん並んでいました。地元のスーパーとしての役割も担っている道の駅でした。

    それほど大きな施設ではありませんが、野菜売り場が充実しているようで、恐らく地元の人たちと思われる買い物客で賑わっていてレジも忙しそうでした。 午後3時頃訪れたこともあって、野菜売り場は売り切れたコーナーもちらほら。午前中の訪問が良さそうです。 弁当も人気とのことですが、訪れた時間のせいか、殆ど残っておらず残念。建物の中には弁当を食べられるようなコーナーがありました。
