    Kumamoto Yamaga Nabeta 2085
This museum is a veritable condensation of the ancient romanticism of the Kikuchi River area. The museum displays a variety of historically valuable, ancient, and folk materials from the Kikuchi River region, such as tomoe interlocking comma-shaped copperware, of which there are only some 30 examples in existence; and the only stone knife-shaped ironware in the country. The museum was opened in 1978 as the prefecture's second ever museum. Maintained as part of the Higo Kodai no Mori park, the museum is also a 15-minute walk from Chibusan Ancient Tomb and Obusan Ancient Tomb, two famous decorated ancient tombs. Some of the museum's many highlights include a late Edo period home; and Otsubo Bridge, the country's second irrigation bridge, which have been moved to the museum grounds and restored.

    方保田東原遺跡の出土品等が展示されているのですが、展示室は仕方はないのですが、ちょっと古い感じで埃のような黴臭い感じです。

    Kumamoto Pref. Asoshi Ichinomiyamachimiyaji
One of the peaks which make up Mt. Aso, it is 1,506 meters high. Situated in the almost exact center of the central group of volcanic cones, this peak is the most active of the volcanos of Aso. Its craters are numbered one through seven, and there is a caldera lake - a crater in which rainwater and spring water has accumulated - known as Yudamari. Access to the lake area may be restricted at times due to the emission of volcanic gasses.

    Kumamoto Aso-gun Takamorimachi Takamori 1645
This sake brewery in Takamori Town is encircled by the five peaks and southern outer crater rim of Mt. Aso. Since it was founded in 1762, the brewery has continued to make sake utilizing the Aso region's extreme differences of heat and cold, and using pure underground spring water from Mt. Aso and Aso rice. The brewery's most popular brand, Reizan, has a crisp flavor and is designed to accompany meals. Amidst a boom in ginjo sakes in which many breweries are pursuing exceedingly fragrant beverages, this brewery continues to be dedicated to the production of traditional flavors which remain beloved by area residents and others. The brewery also offers tastings of its products, making it fun to find your favorite.

This museum looks at Tamana and how it has grown alongside its major river. In addition to a standing exhibition and special exhibitions, the museum holds educational activities such as making ancient magatama stone jewels, and a museum quiz rally (in general, such activities require an advance reservation for a group of 10 or more people). The museum's standing exhibition is divided into three parts - the golden age of the Heki clan (ancient times), the age of overseas trade (medieval times), and the age of cargo vessels and the Takase Okura - and visitors can learn how modern-day Tamana City came to be from a variety of angles. The museum can be identified by its 16 huge display towers on the roof.

"This facility consists of a tourist information center and history museum dedicated to ""Kusamakura,"" one of writer Natsume Soseki's most celebrated works. Here visitors can learn about the history behind the novel and the Maedake family through exhibits and informational panels. ""Kusamakura"" was based on Soseki's trip to Oama Onsen and the Maedake Bettei, a local hot spring inn now nicknamed the ""Soseki Inn,"" even makes an appearance in the novel. After restoration work was completed in 2004, the Maedake Bettei, excluding the main building were made open to the general public, and today, everyone who comes here can easily view the detached lodging and bath in which Soseki stayed."

    Kumamoto Amakusa-shi Hondomachi Hontobaba 1148
"Amakusa's first Zen Buddhist temple was founded in 1645. The temple tells about the history of Amakusa Christians. After the Amakusa Shimabara Rebellion, it was built to help settle the minds of the confused islanders and convert Christians to Buddhism. The main gate is sometimes called the Amakusa-no-Yomeimon. The writing on is plaque refers to ""spreading the teachings of Buddhism and defeating the heresy of the sect of Jesus."" In addition, the stone stairs on the approach to the temple are carved with crosses; as with fumi-e paintings (where suspected Christians were forced to step on sacred images to show they weren't believers) people would have to step on the crosses as they walked to the temple. A Koyasu Kannon statue on the grounds recalls Mary; a statue of the Bodhisattva Jizo, commonly called the ""Foreigner Jizo,"" is clearly Caucasian."

It is a Zen temple in Amakusa, which was built after Amakusa Uprising to reactivate Buddhism. The main gate, which stands at the end of a long path, is very imposing. As the temple is on the top of...

A tourist farm where you can go fruit picking and take in a view of majestic Mt. Aso. In fall, the farm offers apple and grape picking and, from winter through spring, strawberry picking. Amazingly, fruit picking requires no advance reservation, is time unlimited, and all-you-can-eat. The farm makes use of organic cultivation techniques and grows its apples without pesticides, and its safe, healthy fruits are one of the reasons behind its popularity. The farm's cafe serves homemade apple pie, specially made jams, and soft serve ice cream with strawberries in it, making it an irresistible stop for sweets-lovers.

The ""hidden Christians"" from the hamlet of Sakitsu on Yokaku Bay maintained their faith for nearly 240 years in the face of intense persecution that started with the complete ban of the religion in 1638.
