    阿蘇市黒川の住宅街にあるパン工房豆の木、ちょっとわかりずらい場所ですがナビを頼りに訪問しました。まさに工房と言った趣きのお店で、美味しそうなパンが並んでいました。阿蘇の特産品、赤牛を使用した赤牛カレーパンは絶品でしたよ。

Desiring to provide safe, healthy food, almost all of the restaurant's ingredients, such as the vegetables and the Kiyora rice grown using the pure waters of the Chikugo River, are cultivated by the establishment on its own farm. No additives of any kind are used in any of the restaurant's cuisine, and customers rave that here you can eat your food with the peace of mind this provides. The restaurant also offers vegetarian and vegan dishes, as well as plate meals for children with allergies.

    This dorayaki pancake sandwich shop is situated along the narrow Igozaka hill road in Kurokawa Onsen. The shop sells a variety of charming Japanese-style confections with a focus on the Doradora Burger, a dorayaki pancake sandwich consisting of two handmade pancake buns stuffed with sweet red bean paste and a cream-filled daifuku rice cake. In total, the Doradora Burger is sold with five varieties of fillings - Aso Oguni Jersey cow milk cream, matcha green tea cream, custard cream, cafe au lait cream, and dekopon citrus fruit cream. The moist, tender pancake buns produce an exquisite harmony with the homemade fillings, blossoming in the mouth with a sweetness which is just right. A particularly popular product in Kurokawa Onsen, the pancake sandwiches are carefully cooked and wrapped one at a time, and oftentimes when you come late in the day the shop has already sold out. In addition to being a tasty treat to enjoy after a hot spring bath, they also make delightful souvenirs.

    We stopped by here to try some of their sweets but mostly sold out by the end of the day. The pancakes were on the sweet side but it’s worth trying the Kurakawa specialities, around 200 yen per item.

Encased in a truly Japanese atmosphere, the shop is filled with a wide variety of rice cracker products, such as rice crackers made with Ariake nori seaweed from Kyushu, rice crackers made with yuzu citrus pepper from Kyushu, and an exclusive Kurokawa Onsen snack assortment you can only buy in Kyushu. In addition to products designed to be taken home or given as souvenirs, the shop also sells snacks you can enjoy while walking around the area, and customers are even free to buy just a single rice cracker. The shop also sells match green tea soft-serve ice cream and soy sauce ice cream, and many tourists stop by here after enjoying the area's hot spring bathing.

Based on the owner's desire to help people experience the charms of Aso through confections, the shop sells a variety of confections which embody the charms of Aso. The names of many of the shop's confections are inspired by the Aso area, such as the Himoji-yaki, Nakadake Chocolat, and Higotai. The Himoji-yaki is a bouchee with a texture resembling the rocky surface of Mt. Aso and is stuffed with mochi rice cake and coarse sweet red bean paste; at the request of the imperial household, this confection was used as a souvenir at the Kumamoto Nenrinpikku, a sports tournament and community event for senior citizens.

    This longstanding confectionary shop has been in business for over 90 years. The shop continues to make Sakura no Akebono, a delicate, pastel-colored confection which is one of Kikuchi's most well-known; as well as dorayaki pancake sandwiches; madeleines; and a variety of other sweets. Sakura no Akebono are a type of traditional rakugan candy which are made with a focus on creating an exquisitely moist texture. Made using Kumamoto glutinous rice and Kikuchi Onsen hot spring water, these soft confections have a melt-in-your-mouth texture. The crumbly rakugan outer crust is stuffed with a filling made with granulated sugar and glucose syrup. The shop receives orders from across the prefecture and beyond for this popular product to enjoy during New Year's, at weddings, and during the Doll Festival.

    先日家人を誘って初来店しました。お目当はガイドブックに載っていた餡子入りの落雁「桜の曙」。興味津々で賞味したところ、彩は紅白、形は市松模様、甘さは控えめ、食感はふんわり&しっとり。落雁の概念が吹っ飛びました。やるね! お値段も良心的。ちなみに、創業は大正4年(1916年)。

The shop's particularly popular Kuridago look as soft and warm as they are. They consist of chewy dango dumpling dough wrapped around chestnuts whose skin has been painstakingly removed one at a time by hand. The slight saltiness of the dango dough and the light, innate sweetness of the chestnuts results in an exquisite balance of flavors. The shop is dedicated to avoiding the use of additives and its tasty treats are only sweetened with sugar. The shop uses four kinds of sugar depending on the confection - zarame granulated sugar, standard granulated sugar, brown sugar, and wasanbon fine-grained Japanese sugar.

    This Western confectionary shop is located a three-minute walk from Tamana Station. The shop continues to make colorful confections by hand in an establishment with a cute, eye-catching facade. The talented owner and chef has been celebrated as the best in Japan, having won the Luxardo Gran Premio competition held by the Federation of Japan Confectionary Associations. The shop's Auglio cake was awarded in that same competition and consists of mascarpone mouse and pistachio cream elegantly finished with the aroma of a raspberry sauce maraschino.
