This specialty shop in Kamiamakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture is well known for its roughly 15-meter statue of Amakusa Shiro, the tallest of its kind in Japan. Their Amakusa Umakamon Market sells local specialties and their Shima Café where you can enjoy the feeling of being in a tropical country serves various Asian sweets such as drinks with tapioca pearls. You can tour a chikuwa fish cake factory there too. Lots of visitors drop in here while sightseeing in Amakusa.

"This large local specialty products market's name is derived from the Japanese phrase ""kiyoraka ni utsukushi"" (clean/excellent and beautiful) and that Latin word for home/building. The pyramidal market building stands along National Route 212 and embodies the desire to aim for the realization of a town with a clean environment, excellent goods, and excellent people via the work and involvement of everyone living in the community. A local specialty products market which carries an abundant selection of gifts and souvenirs, including fresh-picked vegetables; local liquors; popular confections; and Kikuchi specialty goods like rice paddy burdock and yacon tubers. Exclusive products such as gelatos made with Kikuchi rice and tofu made with water from Kikuchi Gorge are also well reviewed. The morning markets held every Sunday are attended by large numbers of people from within the city and beyond. Visitors are recommended to buy one of the many bento box lunches on offer and go for a picnic in the adjoining Kikuchi City Park.

熊本県北部の町、菊池市。その中心部に、きくち観光物産館がありました。物産館の前には広い駐車場があり、横の方にはさらに広々とした広場もありました。広場には、勇ましい騎馬像がありました。この騎馬像は、かつての菊池のお殿様の像なんだそうです。物産館には菊池市の特産品が並んだいますし、きれいなトイレもあるので、ここに車を停めて市内観光の拠点に利用するのもいいですよ。

This specialty shop is near Aoiaso-jinja Shrine in Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture. It's popular with Hitoyoshi sightseers. The shop sells local specialty items such as the Japanese sweet yubeshi, onsen manju buns, and local sake. The restaurant serves local cuisine and has a menu catered to groups. 人吉温泉物産館は、「青井阿蘇神社」の隣にあるおみやげ屋さんです。おみやげ屋さんの他に足湯もあり、お食事処もありました。おみやげ屋さんは、「蔵元屋」という球磨焼酎のお店がありました。２７蔵にもおよぶ球磨焼酎の酒蔵の焼酎をそろえていて、広いスペースで、じっくりと球磨焼酎を選ぶことができました。

紅葉狩りの途中に立ち寄りましたが、手ごろな値段で手作り豆腐のセットランチが楽しめます。りんどう膳、ゆうすげ膳、はぎ膳、くぬぎ膳、花ランチセット等1,100-1,600円です。私はゆうすげ膳、友人はりんどう膳を注文しました。豆腐は絶品です。

Kumamoto Hitoyoshi-shi Akaikeharamachi 1425-1

A theme park where you can learn about the traditional crafts of Hitoyoshi and Kuma, an area selected for inclusion in the Japan Heritage list. The park consists of nine facilities, including a ceramics arts hall, smithing hall, glass hall, and teahouse, and visitors can make a variety of crafts by hand under the guidance of skilled artisans. There's also an observatory with a sweeping view of the Kyushu Mountains, a campground, and a park perfect for small children, making this a great destination for the whole family and for a variety of purposes. The local specialty products market sells traditional kijiuma wheeled bird toys, hanatebako boxes painted with camellias, and a wide variety of other gifts and souvenirs from Hitoyoshi and Kuma.

こちらに来て偶然見た番組で知りました。三徳包丁作り体験¥5000。凄く丁寧に教えてくれます。所要時間は90分くらい。家にある包丁の中で一番の切れ味。私は来る度に作って親しい人にプレゼントしています。

This local specialty products market is situated at the entrance to Shirakawa Springs, which was selected for inclusion in Japan's Top 100 Famous Water list. The market sells original Shirakawa Springs mineral water, home polished rice, handmade Japanese pickles, tofu made with the famous water of the springs, and other local agricultural products and foods. The double-winged market was built with the aim of stimulating the local food production industry and received subsidies from a project operated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to build facilities which revitalize local food businesses. The gallery space in the market's basement can be used for solo and group exhibitions.

"This knickknacks and ornaments shop stands at the edge of Kurokawa Onsen. Operating out of an old Japanese home, the shop has a still, quiet atmosphere, and inside are displayed colorful wreaths made of natural materials, wall decorations, and other tasteful knickknacks. 442号沿いにあり、幟に誘われ入店。山吹色のジャージヨーグルトや黒川温泉湯上がりカフェオレ、チーズケーキを買いました。消費期限が近い物があり3割引で買えた物も有り、お得に頂きました。ジャージーヨーグルトとチーズケーキは非常に濃厚で美味しかったです。カフェオレも甘くなくスッキリ味で朝の湯上がりにはバッチリでした。
