Based on the owner's desire to help people experience the charms of Aso through confections, the shop sells a variety of confections which embody the charms of Aso. "This longstanding Japanese confectionary shop was established in 1897. The shop continues to make Shokanji Matsukaze, a traditional confection known as the ""thinnest Japanese confection in the country."" Just 1.2 millimeters thick, Shokanji Matsukaze are an elegant and exquisite treat; made from high quality flour and beet sugar, they are toasted to perfection using a proprietary method and then cut to size by hand. They are said to have been one of the aspects of Kyoto culture the powerful Kikuchi clan brought back to the area in the Muromachi period. Crispy and characterized by an elegant sweetness, these confections are a favorite of all ages as a teatime snack and as a gift to give on special occasions."

This Japanese confectionary shop is famous for the Kuridago, sold in department stores across the country. The shop sells Kuridago made with lavish amounts of huge chestnuts from Kikuchi; ikinari dango cakes, a famous local confection from Kumamoto; and other sweets. The shop's particularly popular Kuridago look as soft and warm as they are. They consist of chewy dango dumpling dough wrapped around chestnuts whose skin has been painstakingly removed one at a time by hand. The slight saltiness of the dango dough and the light, innate sweetness of the chestnuts results in an exquisite balance of flavors. The shop is dedicated to avoiding the use of additives and its tasty treats are only sweetened with sugar. The shop uses four kinds of sugar depending on the confection - zarame granulated sugar, standard granulated sugar, brown sugar, and wasanbon fine-grained Japanese sugar.

    Kumamoto Kumamoto-shi Chuo-ku Shinmachi 2-12-32
This shop specializes in karashi renkon mustard filled lotus root, one of Kumamoto's most well-known local dishes. It is said the shop's origins date back some 400 years ago to 1632 when the shop's founder, Heigoro, presented his karashi daikon to Hosokawa Tadatoshi, then-lord of the domain. Originally a health food for lords, the shop's karashi renkon is made without any preservatives whatsoever. The shop continues to make its karashi renkon diligently by hand, one at a time, the same way as when the shop was established. You can cut off a slice and eat it as-is or garnish it with soy sauce, mayonnaise, sesame dressing, or other condiments to curb the spiciness. Conversely, if you want your karashi renkon to be more spicy, try heating it in a microwave for about 20 seconds.

Chosen-ame are made with glutinous rice, mizuame glucose syrup, and sugar, and are characterized by a lightly sweet flavor and a texture similar to other Japanese hard candies. Long ago, they were called ""chosei-ame"" (long-life candies), but after Kato Kiyomasa, then-lord of Kumamoto Domain, brought them with him during an invasion of Korea and praised them for their delicious flavor as well as their long shelf life, they came to be called ""Korean candies."" While continuing to preserve tradition, the shop also takes on new challenges; for example, in 2018 the shop released lemon candies, its first new product in 115 years."
