- Nagasaki Pref. Nagasakishi Minamiyamatemachi 8-1
- This tourist facility features various historic Western-style buildings that were moved here and remodeled, with the crown jewel being the Glover House, Japan's oldest wooden Western-style building and which was erected here at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate. In 2015, the Glover House was registered as one of the World Heritage Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining. The grounds are planted with numerous seasonal flowers such as rosebushes and bigleaf hydrangeas, providing visitors with colorful scenery year-round. The site also features a photo studio where visitors can take a commemorative picture wearing period clothing, as well as a coffee house offering a sweeping view of the harbor. Visitors are encouraged to make plenty of time and stroll the grounds leisurely.

- Spectacles Bridge (Megane-bashi)
-
- Nagasaki Pref. Nagasakishi Uonomachi
- This stone bridge spanning the Nakashima River was constructed by Kofukuji Temple’s monk Mokusu Nyojo in 1634. This is Japan’s first arch-type stone bridge with a total length of 22 meters, a width of 3.6 meters, and a height above the river surface of 5.46 meters. The name comes from how the shape of the bridge’s two semicircle arches are reflected in the water surface and look like eyeglasses when viewed from far away. This is one of Japan’s three great bridges along with Nihombashi Bridge and Kintaikyo Bridge. It was designated as a National Important Cultural Property in 1960.

The highest point of the Ferris wheel, which is a symbol of the mall, is about 70 meters above the ground and the time it takes to go around is 10 minutes and 51 seconds. A nursing room, and baby strollers are available. It is a three-minute walk from Urakami Station. The mall has a bus terminal adjacent meaning bus access is easy.

- Nagasaki Peace Park (Ground zero Area / Peace Statue Area)
-
- Nagasaki Pref. Nagasakishi Matsuyamamachi
- The atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki City on August 9, 1945. The Peace Park is located on a small hill in the north of the area on which the bomb was dropped and was created with the vow to prevent the recurrence of war and the hope of world peace. The bronze Peace Statue, 9.7 meters tall and weighing 30 tons, stands in the park. The statue’s right hand point towards the heavens represents the threat of atomic bombing; the left hand held out level represents peace; the closed eyes represent a prayer for the happiness in the next world of the victims of the bombing. The Peace Fountain is located in front of the statue and is inscribed with a quote by a young girl who wondered the town in search of water after the bombing – “I was so thirsty I could not stand it / Something like oil covered the entire surface of the water / But I wanted to drink so bad / Finally, I drank it, oil and all.”

In an intersection of roads that extend out east, west, north and south for 250 meters altogether are more than 40 shops and the stone-paved road was built with the help of Fujian, Nagasaki’s sister city. Nagasaki’s local cuisine is chanpon (a dish of noodles, seafood, vegetables) and zaru-udon. In this new Chinatown visitors can enjoy chanpon and zaru-udon in various shops that are full of individual character. Try the various tastes of chanpon and zaru-udon while strolling through this Chinatown full of exotic atmosphere.

- Nagasaki Pref. Shimabarashi Jounai 1-1183-1
- Shimabara Castle is located at the foot of Mt. Unzen overlooking the Ariake Sea. The castle is comprised of a five-tier tower surrounded by turrets of various sizes and incorporates the castle architectural style of the Azuchi-Momyama period. The castle is distinguished by its tall and strong walls. After it was completed in 1624, the castle served as the seat of 19 generations of feudal lords from four clans over a 250-year history and was the stage for many historical events. The castle was demolished with the Meiji Restoration but the tower was restored in 1964. The interior of the castle is a museum which exhibits materials related to the early Japanese Christians and other local history matters.

- Unzen Jigoku
-
- Nagasaki Pref. Unzenshi Obamachounzen 320
- Featuring air thick with the smell of sulfur and white steam bursting from underground, Unzen Jigoku (Unzen Hell) really lives up to its name. It is known as a place where Christians were once tortured to death, and there are monuments dedicated to their martyrdom. Some of the attractions include the “Unzen Jigoku Steaming Footbath,” where visitors can experience the sensation of geothermal heat and steam, and the “Unzen Jigoku Workshop,” which sells eggs with an interesting effect: “Eat one, and you live a year longer. Eat two, and you live two years longer. Eat three, and you live long until you die.” In the fall, over 2,000 of these eggs are sold every day, making them quite the hot item indeed.
Main Area

What is Nagasaki?
This hidden corner of the country is rural Japan at its best, where underground activity is to thank for active volcanoes and bubbling natural hot springs along the Shimabara Peninsula as well as the crystal clear waters of the Goto Islands off the west coast. Less well known than Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park, Nagasaki commemorates its own past at the Nagasaki Peace Park, which sits alongside the charming Meganebashi stone bridge and a mix of religious buildings with beautiful architecture, such as the Zen Buddhist Sofukuji Temple, the Confucian Shrine, and the Oura Christian Church.

Getting Around
A long way from Tokyo, Nagasaki Prefecture is best reached via Nagasaki Airport, which will take you one hour and 50 minutes. Accessing the prefecture from around Kyushu proves less challenging, with the JR Limited Express Kamome taking you directly from Hakata Station in Fukuoka city to Nagasaki Station and ferries from Kumamoto prefecture sailing you across the Ariake Sea directly to the Shimabara Peninsula.
