Saga Saga-shi Yokamachi 2-50

The shrine is said to have been founded in the reign of Emperor Kinmei, and its deity is Toyotamahime-no-mikoto, the grandmother of Emperor Jinmu, who is said to be the princess of the Dragon Palace. The 1,400-year-old camphor tree is designated as a natural monument of the prefecture.

The garden was built on the former villa of the Nabeshima family. 30,000 azaleas and 10,000 rhododendrons bloom in the spring, and the autumn leaves turn the entire area a brilliant red, making it a beautiful sight in any season.

A park located in Shimokoga, Higashiyoka-cho, Saga City. Adjoining the Higashi-Yoka Higata Tideland, which is registered under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, visitors can view mudskippers and other tidal flat dwellers as well as wild birds and Shichimenso, a plant which thrives in high salinity waters. Facilities include a playground with a boat-shaped piece of play equipment the same size as the Ryofu-maru, Saga Domain's first practical steamship; and a course where visitors can ride unusual and interesting bicycles. The baths in the hotel are filled with waters from a private source spring known for its skin beautifying properties and used for healing purposes since ancient times. These waters are said to treat such ailments as nerve pain, muscle soreness, joint pain, and frozen shoulders. 38 ° C, the hotel's bathhouse is also known for being a ""lukewarm"" hot spring in which one can soak for long periods of time in comfort. "This castle ruins site is located in Saga City, Saga Prefecture. A symbol of Saga City, the former castle belonged to the Nabeshima clan, who ruled the then-Saga Domain, valued at 360 thousand ""koku"" of rice. The only original structures remaining today are the Shachi-no-mon inner citadel gate, tsuzuki-yagura linked turrets, and stone walls. Beyond the gate, a portion of the inner citadel palace has been restored. The Shachi-no-mon gate and linked turrets have been designated National Important Cultural Properties. The moat and surrounding area encircling the castle has been turned into the prefectural Saga Castle Park, and here visitors can enjoy the sight of cherry blossoms and azaleas when in season."

A park located in Ogi-machi, Ogi City. The park's grounds enclose a Shinto shrine, the former Ogi Domain Residence, and the Jirakuen, a garden created by Nabeshima Motoshige and Nabeshima Naoyoshi, the first and second lords of Ogi Domain, respectively. There are also tennis courts. A renowned destination for cherry blossom viewing, as well, some 3,000 cherry trees grow on the grounds. In addition, azaleas and wisteria bloom in the park from mid-April to May.

The hotel's bathhouse is constantly replenished ""kakenagashi"" style from a natural hot spring welling up from 1,300 meters underground. The waters of this carbonated spring are said to treat such ailments as heart disease, neurasthenia, insomnia, and stiff shoulders, and the carbonic acid they contain are also said to promote health and blood circulation. レンタカーを借りて鳥栖市から行きました。古湯温泉の中にあります。入浴料は1000円。斎藤茂吉や青木繁がその昔湯治に来たそうです。浴槽は二つ。一つは砂利引きのお風呂です。こんなの初めてでした。砂利式なのにお湯は汚れていません。入用していたのは私だけだったので、爽快でした。湯温が低いのでいつまでも入ってられます。旅館が観られる日本庭園が素晴らしい。

A memorial museum showcasing the work and personal items of Gochiku Nakabayashi , a calligrapher from Ogi. It houses about 500 pieces of Gochiku's work and about 50 of his personal items. About 40 items are on exhibit at any given time and the display changes every three months. The Gochiku Map, produced by the Ogi City Board of Education, is available at the museum's counter. It presents 24 spots around Ogi City with ties to the artist.

This hot spring district, situated 20 kilometers north of Saga Station and 200 meters above sea level, was famously frequented by artists and writers such as Mokichi Saito, considered an authority in Japanese poetry circles. In 1966, the area was designated a National Hot Spring Health Resorts as Furuyu-kumanokawa onsenkyo by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. The colorless, odorless, flavorless waters of the area's simple alkaline hot spring have a hydrogen ion concentration (pH) of 9.5, one of the highest in the country (the Yoshihanatei's spring is a simple mildly radioactive spring). There are 13 hot spring lodging facilities in the area, and the bathhouses of all of them are open to non-guests, ensuring that visitors can stay and enjoy some long, relaxing soaks or stop by while traveling through the area to ease away the fatigue of the journey. There are also many sightseeing destinations in the area, such as the Yoshimura Residence, an ancient wooden single story house with a thatched roof which is the oldest Japanese-style home in the prefecture; and the Kinpukuji Temple, the place where the rebel statesmen Eto Shinpei was confined.

Spanning the mouth of the Chikugo River and boasting a total length of 507 meters, this is hailed as the best movable iron bridge in the East. Since the water level of the Chikugo River is significantly affected by the differences in the ebb and flow of the Ariake Sea, a movable type of bridge was adopted where the movable crossbeam of the bridge was only lowered to connect the railway lines when a train was passing through, allowing ships to go out and return at all other times. Although the train tracks have been in disuse since the Saga Line was abandoned in 1987, it was restored as promenade to serve as a symbol of the town in 1996. It is now Japan’s oldest bridge in operation and was designated a National Important Cultural Property in 2003.

The oldest machiya building in Saga Castle, estimated to have been built in the early 18th century, was regrettably demolished in 1993 when the prefectural road was widened. "Located approximately five minutes from the Saga-Yamato Interchange on the Nagasaki Expressway, this is main facility of the ""Kinryu Park Jofuku no Sato Medicinal Botanical Garden,"" which was created on the theme of health and longevity in connection with Jofuku (Xu Fu) who has a connection to Saga. Jofuku, who went on a quest for a panacea for immortality, is said to have found the medicinal herb furofuki (wild ginger) in the land of Saga, and the facility introduces its trajectory and legend. In the adjacent herb garden, there are about 50,000 plants from about 500 species of medicinal plants including furofuki. Nao washi paper is said to have begun with the introduction of papermaking to Nao Village by its headman Nodomi Yoshisuke in 1690. Typically, a mulberry species known as kozo is used to make Japanese paper, but Nao washi is made with kajinoki mulberry which grows naturally in the Nao area. As the fibers are long and intertwine more readily with each than kozo mulberry, even thin paper is quite durable. The studio holds tours where you can observe the papermaking process, as well as workshops. Reservations aren't required, but you might want to contact them in advance.

太宰府、吉野ヶ里と回るついでに訪問。和紙を加工してランプなどの工芸品にしたりいろいろと商品も多い。資料の展示もあり手漉きの体験もありました。時間がなくてできなかったのが残念。館内の窓にある肥前名尾和紙の障子を透いて手に当たる日の光の優しさは印象的でした。

Kumonokawa Onsen is a traditional hot spring area known for its slightly lukewarm, roughly 38-degree centigrade water with a nice slippery feel. In 1966 it was designated as a National Hot Spring Health Resort by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The simple alkaline hot spring is said to have a range of beneficial effects when bathed in and consumed. Eiryu Onsen has long been a popular public bath; it's available for both day use and overnight stays. Private bathing is also available.
