There's also an amusement park for children. The station's claim to fame, however, is it's ""100 million-yen toilet."""

    The Kitakyushu Bank Retro Line “Shiokaze” runs from the Kyushu Railway History Museum to the Kanmon Straits Mekari, and travels four stations in around 15 minutes. A blue retro railcar with two engines and two passenger cars, one can travel easily back and forth between the Mojiko retro area and Mekari area. It takes two minutes to walk from JR Mojiko Station to the Kyushu Railway History Museum Station.

    Takes you right to the top to Mekari area. Views are great and the underground tunnel (under the water) is about a 10 minute walk away.

    A Shinto shrine located in Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City. The shrine is dedicated to all those connected to Fukuoka Prefecture who have sacrificed themselves for the country in battle from the Meiji restoration to the Pacific War. The shrine prays for the continued peace of the Japanese nation and is said to grant worshippers peace and prosperity in the household as well as traffic safety. Facing the Ohori Park and Fukuoka Castle Ruins, the shrine's raw timber torii gate, standing at the head of the approach on the park side, is 13 meters tall and its pillars are 160 centimeters in diameter, making it the biggest of its kind in Japan.

    This is a zoo surrounded by the lush nature of Enmei Park, located in just about the center of Omuta City. Inside are lions, tigers and squirrel monkeys, as well as a children’s amusement park with merry-go-rounds, a viewing platform and a picnic area, making it a place loved by people of all ages and families with children most of all. Popular events include animal petting activities.

    A Buddhist temple located in Itoshima City, Fukuoka Prefecture. A Shingon sect Daikaku-ji school temple. The temple's principal object of worship is a statue of a thousand-armed (Senjyu) Kannon. This wooden figure is estimated to have been crafted in the late Kamakura period (1185-1333) and, together with another wooden statue depicting a seated figure of the priest Seiga also in the temple's possession, it has been designated a National Important Cultural Property. The temple is also a renowned destination for fall foliage and a 400-year-old giant Japanese maple on the grounds has been designated a Natural Monument by Fukuoka Prefecture.

    Definitely a great place to catch autumn foliage with the 400 year old maple tree. The walk around the gardens is lovely. Be sure to catch the street vendors selling local Japanese snacks.

    "Daihonzan Naritasan Kurume Temple can be reached by coming off the Kyushu Expressway at the Hirokawa Interchange and then driving along National Route 3 in the direction of Kurume for about 10 minutes. It is a Buddhist temple belonging to the Chizan school of the Shingon sect, which was founded by being separated from Naritasan Shinshoji Temple in Chiba Prefecture; its official name is Naritasan Kurume Bunin (""Bunin"" means ""branch temple""). Within the temple precincts there is a 62 meter-high statue of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy, which is said to be the largest of its kind in Japan. Inside the statue there is a spiral staircase leading up to an observation window positioned in the shoulder, from which there are views of the Chikugo Plain and the Ariake Sea; Unzen can be seen in the distance. There is also a museum in the temple called the ""Hell and Paradise Museum,"" which recreates the sights and sounds of hell using dioramas and sound effects, enabling visitors to experience a ""tour of hell."""

    A Shinto shrine located in Kurume City. The head shrine of all Suitengu shrines nationwide, the shrine is dedicated to Amenominakanushi-no kami, Emperor Antoku, Takakura Taira no Chugu (Taira no Tokuko), and Nii no ama (Taira no Tokiko). Worshipers pray at the shrine daily for a safe childbirth, to be blessed with children, and for charm against drowning and maritime safety, in addition to bringing newborn babies to the shrine to be blessed. During the shrine's major festival, held from May 5 to 7 each year, local elementary school students perform the ritual Urayasu no Mai dance at the main shrine building.

    This castle was constructed by Hosokawa Tadaoki over a period of seven years starting in 1602. A characteristic of this castle is the large castle keep built in Kara-zukuri style where the fifth floor is larger than the fourth floor, and there are no roof eaves between the fourth floor and fifth floor. The stone walls, in a style known as Nozura-tsumi because they do not use any hewn stone, are a must-see. Inside the castle is a history zone with a diorama that is a model of the castle-town, and the castle keep has an observation zone that offers a 360-degree view of Kokura’s townscape. The castle grounds are a famous spot for hanami cherry blossom viewing parties when the approximately 300 cherry trees are in bloom.

The island’s circumference is approximately 12 kilometers. Nokoshima Island Park is great for cycling, offering beautiful views of the ocean as well as various flowers blooming in profusion such as rapeseed, sunflowers, cosmos and daffodils.
