The government-operated Yahata Steel Works, a registered World Heritage site, were founded in 1901. Still in operation today, the site’s facilities are not open to the public; however, visitors can come look at the exterior of the old head office building from this viewing space. A red brick structure with a dome located in the center of the roof, the former head office building was once the nerve center of the steelworks. Inside, informational panels and photographs present the history of the site; volunteers also serve as tour guides. A board near the entrance is provided for photographs. Space World Station is the closest station.
