    Canoekan (Canoe House) is a canoeing facility located on the middle reaches of the Shimanto River, around 20 minutes’ walk from JR Ekawasaki Station. This is a very popular spot, at which everyone—including beginners, children and senior citizens—can enjoy canoeing while experiencing the magnificent natural beauty of the Shimanto River. Canoekan also runs canoeing experience activities and canoe tours. There is a comprehensive range of facilities, including a café and a shop which sells local specialty products, as well as a camp site and log cabin accommodation, etc. Visitors can spend a whole day enjoying the Shimanto River.

    日本バーベキュー協会及び地元四万十の行政主催のイベントに参加する為に2泊で訪問しました。綺麗に整備されたキャンプ場で、設備が整っています。当日はみぞれが降る様な寒さで、キャンプはせずに近くのホテルに宿泊しましたが、四万十川の横にありとても感じも良く、近くにスーパー、道の駅もあり不自由ありません。次回は夏場に行きたいと思います。

    This confectionary is in Shimanto Town, Takaoka County, Kochi Prefecture. It's famous for its oddly hard sweet potato stick Imokenpi, made with lots of Shimanto aonori seaweed and black sesame. They shop also does product shows, meaning you can buy goods hot off the stove. They also make tarts and western pastries with sweet potatoes, and old-fashioned popped-grain snacks, called pongashi in Japanese.

    Shimanto River Kawa-asobi Park and Furusato Koryu Center has a campsite with extensive green lawns, located in the middle reaches of the Shimanto River. Campsite users are free to set up their tents anywhere on the grass within the camping area, making for a relaxing, casual camping experience. There are toilets, showers, and a cooking area, and camping equipment is available for rental. This is also a popular place for enjoying riverine leisure activities on the Shimanto River. There are guided rafting tours that take visitors from Mishima (further upstream) down the river through rapids, and canoes are available for rental. Visitors are sure to have a really enjoyable Shimanto River experience here.

    Sunriver Shimanto Bussankan, Shikoku’s largest local specialty products store, is located around 10 minutes’ walk from the Tosa Kuroshio Railway’s Nakamura Station. Its location in Shimanto City center means that store receives large numbers of both local shoppers and tourist visitors. There is an extensive product display area, featuring fresh fruits and vegetables supplied directly by farmers in the Shimanto area, dried fish and other processed fish products from fish caught in Tosa Bay, and a wide range of other local specialty products. One of the most popular confectionery products (so popular that the store sometimes runs out) is Daifuku rice cakes made with fresh cream and Shimanto’s Mitsuimo sweet potatoes. There is also a restaurant where visitors can enjoy seasonal dishes made with locally-sourced fresh vegetables and local fish species.

    Tosa Jizakeya is a shop specializing in local varieties of sake, housed in a building that resembles an old-style farmhouse and located near the Shimanto River in the Taisho District. It is unusual in that it has sold only local sake from Kochi Prefecture ever since its founding. This devotion to principle is reflected in the fact that the shop never sells sake from any other prefecture. It sells the products of sake brewers from all over Kochi Prefecture, such as Mutemuka, the home of the Taisho District’s famous Dabada Hiburi. In addition, it deals in rare, limited varieties that cannot be found anywhere else. Tosa Jizakeya also sells its merchandise over the internet, so that customers can have sake from Kochi Prefecture shipped to anywhere in Japan.

    四万十川 中流に広がる四万十町(四万十市とは別物です)には、見どころ 施設が点在。車で回るのが便利ですが、敢えてローカル線の旅も良いものです レトロな町大正には、栗焼酎で有名な酒蔵無手無冠(むてむか)があり、地酒小売の地酒屋 焼酎の預金口座を作れる焼酎銀行と面白い展開。地酒屋さんは、そんな無手無冠の地元用お酒だけではなく土佐地酒が揃うお店。ローカル旅の良さをしみじみ味わえます。

    This facility, lined with various restaurants and shops, was built in Tosashimizu City, Kochi Prefecture to promote its tourism and local fish products. One can taste the fishes fostered by the kuroshio currents, the fresh fish caught the same morning or evening, prepared as sashimi or donburi dishes. You can taste and purchase the fisherman’s Ryoshi Miso made from the recipe handed down for many years by fishermen. Various workshops and activities are offered including bonito braising, whale watching, and the “Be a Fisherman” experience.

    仕方なく〇が１つ付けてあるが、本当は✖が１０１付く位の酷さ。何度立ち寄っても変わり映えしないと云うか、前近代的と云うか、悪い意味で非日常の店舗でした。おそらく、１０周目の遍路を実施している私だが、四国８８所の昼食でここよりも落ちるのは他に類を見ない。食べ物なので個人的嗜好が入るのは当然としても、食べ物以前の段階で、ここは酷い、最低。今どきの時代に、座布団で畳にドンと座って食事するなんて信じられない...

    A confectionery with 80-years of history. Using the traditional sweet-making methods they've used since their founding, they create confections with carefully selected Hokkaido azuki beans, dough ingredients, and pure Shimanto River water. Their signature item is Ikada Yokan, a highly popular sweet bean jelly that got its start as a seasonal tradition in Nakamura, recalling the days of ikada rafts carrying timber along the Shimanto River.

    This is a place with many mysteries with amazing boulders. The area around the southern coast of Cape Ashizuri is made of granite, and the exposed and piled up rocks make it a nature rich garden close to a boulder cluster. It is said that it was used for ceremonies and communication during the Jomon period (about 1,000 BC-300 BC), but no details are known.

Their Japanese confections, birthday cakes, and gift-ready rolled cakes are popular, and in winter their standard Imo Mochi is so popular that people reserve it in advance. This habit-forming treat combines sweet potatoes with glutinous rice flour. We recommend cutting it into one centimeter squares and lightly toasting it.

    いつも、車がいっぱい止められ、賑わっていますので、立ち寄ってみました。入ってみますと、観光客用と言うよりは地元な方たちで賑わっていました。中は、よくあります、私設の産直のお店です。また最近では、全国チェーンのお店とも併設していていますので、スーパーマーケット的な感じになって来ているようです。
