This shop located in Minamikawazoe, Kochi City offers a range of products from Tsuno Town (also in Kochi Prefecture), which is part of the Shimanto River watershed. These include vegetables harvested fresh each morning in Tsuno, processed products, flowers, sundries, and more. At the adjacent café, visitors can enjoy a variety of items including beef steak sets and roast beef made with Tsunoyama beef and Tosa Wagyu, as well as sweets made with tea grown in Tsuno Town.

This is one of my favorite places in kochi! You can enjoy great roasted green tea foods and sweets there!

This morning market is held in Otesuji, Kochi City. Held every Sunday except for New Year’s and during the Yosakoi Festival, the market’s history dates back more than 300 years to the Edo period. The approximately 400 shops that line the kilometer-long market offer a wide variety of items including produce such as fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, processed seafood products such as dried fish, Kochi specialties, and daily necessities. Visitors can also walk the market to try the many tasty items on offer, such as hiyashiame (a chilled sweet ginger drink).

The Kochi Sunday Market is a must if in the area. I altered my plans for a trip just to make sure I would be in Kochi on a Sunday. Prior to going, I read that the market has been going on for...

Currently held every Saturday at Ike Park, it was known as the Satruday Port Market when it started in 2008. Japan's first organic market, all of its stands sell organic agricultural products, additive-free prepared foods, and handmade crafts. They also collect used tempura oil that customers bring from home and provide consultations on working in agriculture. The market is packed with people every week.

I wasnt going to be in town for Kochis famous Sunday Market, but found out about this one and went to take a look. It is a very local little market with a couple dozen stalls, including a few that...

Kochi Areas

around-area-map

The largest of Shikoku’s prefectures, Kochi is endowed with some of the island’s most exceptional sand beaches lining the Pacific Ocean, which narrows into the Shimanto-gawa, a huge river that stretches 196 kilometers into the prefecture, passing verdant mountains and hosting countless riverside activities. Whether you’re a pilgrim or not, Kochi’s 16 Buddhist temples that make up one leg of the Shikoku Pilgrimage are worth a visit, particularly Chikurin-ji for its five-tier pagoda.
