This glass bottom boat is where you can take a trip under the sea and see the sights of Minokoshi with your clothes on. It is located in Ashizuri Uwakai National Park, and you can enjoy the marine ecology of Tatsukushi Marine Park. Under the influence of the warm Kuroshio current, you can enjoy the reef-building coral and the sea treasure trove inhabited by tropical fish. It operates at any time without reservations.

Kochi Pref. Tosashimizu City Tatsukushi 19-10
This sightseeing boat operates off the Tatsukushi Coast in Misaki, Tosashimizu City. Designated as Japan’s first “underwater park” (currently called “marine parks”), this region of ocean is home to Japan’s largest Shikorosango coral cluster. The coast also has many beautiful views and for strange rock formations. The glass-bottomed boat allows visitors to observe the underwater life from above the waves.

From the end of the Meiji era to the early 1950s, it was said that up to 100 boats might ply the river at once. These days they operate as sightseeing boats and offer the chance to relax and enjoy some time on the river.

I had a lot of fun on this tour. While it only lasted an hour, I felt that it was a great way to enjoy the Shimanto River. The tour guide took us into shallow areas to get a closer look at...

The largest of Shikoku’s prefectures, Kochi is endowed with some of the island’s most exceptional sand beaches lining the Pacific Ocean, which narrows into the Shimanto-gawa, a huge river that stretches 196 kilometers into the prefecture, passing verdant mountains and hosting countless riverside activities. Whether you’re a pilgrim or not, Kochi’s 16 Buddhist temples that make up one leg of the Shikoku Pilgrimage are worth a visit, particularly Chikurin-ji for its five-tier pagoda.
