At the Kuroshio Kobo you can enjoy a workshop learning how to cure freshly caught fish, and to straw-braise bonito, a local delicacy. One can try their hand at shaving and packing the bonito in the beginner’s course, while the intermediate course challenges one from filleting a whole bonito through to the packing method. At the food court, you can enjoy all the local dishes prepared from Central Tosa products.

This little restaurant was just besides our ryokan-onsen. They make delicious bonito tataki. Most of the other food that we tried was also good! I would recommend the tataki. Not a word of English...

This experience-based learning facility is located on the side of National Route 441 in Nishitosanakaba, Shimanto City. Located in a renovated former elementary school, it offers accommodations that include guest rooms inside converted classrooms and a bungalow. It offers a variety of river-based activities to enjoy including canoeing, fishing, river hiking, snorkeling, and more. There are also exclusive programs such as stargazing parties just for people staying at the facility.

Shimanto River is serene. We stayed at Shimanto Gakusha, which was a guest house converted from an abandoned primary school. We stayed there for kayaking, which was a great experience for us. The...

Kochi Main Areas

around-area-map

The largest of Shikoku’s prefectures, Kochi is endowed with some of the island’s most exceptional sand beaches lining the Pacific Ocean, which narrows into the Shimanto-gawa, a huge river that stretches 196 kilometers into the prefecture, passing verdant mountains and hosting countless riverside activities. Whether you’re a pilgrim or not, Kochi’s 16 Buddhist temples that make up one leg of the Shikoku Pilgrimage are worth a visit, particularly Chikurin-ji for its five-tier pagoda.
