    Kochi Agawa-gun Inocho Daikokucho
    Nicknamed “Ino-no-Daikokusama,” this is an ancient Daikoku-cho Shinto shrine. It enshrines three Shinto deities: Okuninushi-no-mikoto, Susanoo-no-mikoto, and Kushi-inada-hime. Its founding dates back to the year 793, and the octagonal portable shrine there dating from the Kamakura period is a national Important Cultural Property. The deities there are thought to impart a multitude of boons, including good fortune, matchmaking, household safety, business prosperity, recovery from illness, and more. The festivals held in spring and autumn are counted among Tosa's three major festivals; the most important event in the region, it sees hundreds of thousands of visitors come from inside and outside the prefecture.

  • Cape Ashizuri Lighthouse

    Standing 18 meters tall on the tip of Cape Ashizuri, this chalk-white lighthouse is one of the largest in Japan, shining 460,000 candelas worth of light. The observation deck offers a breathtaking panoramic 270-degree view. Witnessing the grandeur of the Pacific Ocean from here really makes the curvature of the earth stand out.

    This theme park located in Otani, Noichi-cho, Konan City features a number of museums and galleries. The Ryoma History Museum and the World Celebrity Museum display realistic wax figures. There are also galleries featuring the works of artists such as the late Edo period painter Ekin (Hirose Kinzo) as well as Francis Kwatei Nee-Owoo, an artist from Ghana. Other facilities include the World Model Car Museum, the World Classic Car Museum, and the Bonnet bus Museum.

    This is one of my recommended places in kochi. You can enjoy some museums in one place. It’s open from morning till night!

    高知の山奥に四国の法隆寺と云われる国宝の寺があるとは、畏れ多いことです。724年創立とあり、歴史を感じるしっかりとした建物で、京都などとは違い無料で見学できるのは非常に有難い。ただ、国道から狭い山道を幾分不安を感じながら登る覚悟は必要です。

    Kochi Takaoka-gun Sakawacho Ko 360
    A museum dedicated to the geology of Kochi Prefecture, including the fossil treasure trove of the Sagawa Basin. Its displays cover 400 million years of Shikoku history. There's also a collection of rare fossils, a 3/5 scale mobile tyrannosaurus, movable continental models, a chambered nautilus (known as a “living fossil”), and a horseshoe crab tank. The museum teaches about Earth and the history of biological life from various angles.

    今から45億年前の地球の誕生から現在までの壮大なスケールでの旅が2時間余りで体験できました。 各地質時代の代表的な化石、特に佐川町から見つかった化石が多数展示されています。 また、恐竜の卵の化石やマンモスの牙の化石などもあり、興味深深でした。

    This gallery is located in Nirouno, Kahoku-cho, Kami City. It is one of the facilities of the Kami City Yanase Takashi Memorial Hall. It features exhibits related to the magazine “Poem and Märchen,” which was one of Takashi Yanase’s life’s works. These exhibits include the covers and illustrations Yanase created over the three decades since the magazine’s launch. It also holds events including exhibitions of artists with deep connections to the magazine.

    日曜日の午後行ったけど、人が居ない。沢山の絵本が並べられているので読み放題だけど、寂しい。アンパンマンミュージアムから少ししか離れてないけど、せっかくの施設なので、もう少し工夫されればいいのに.....

    VRゴーグルを装着して、鯨や海亀等々の魚たちと海の中をバーチャル画像で楽しめて良かったです。VRによる仮想空間体験が初めてだったのでテンション上がりました。

    This forest railway is located in front of Community Center Umaji in Umaji, Umaji Village, Aki County. The roughly 300-meter-long railway is a 2:3 scale reproduction of the forest railway that was once used to carry lumber here. The top of the steep incline offers a sweeping view of the surrounding scenery.

    天気もよく、坂を下り馬路温泉に車を止めて坂を上ると目の前に森林鉄道があり、週末と祝日しかやってないみたいです。 木でできた切符をもらい歩いても行ける距離を二周回ってくれます。 そよ風も心地よく、川の流れも綺麗でお子さんにはとても喜ばれると思います。

    This roadside station was built in Tarogawa Park, which is located on the side of National Route 197 in Tarogawa, Yusuhara Town, Takaoka County. In addition to a shop that offers local products, the facility also features the Kumo no Ue no Hotel, which includes a hot spring spa, a pool, a gallery, Kumo no Ue no Restaurant, and other facilities. The Kumo no Ue no Restaurant offers dishes made with ingredients including beef raised in natural pastures, fish from the Shimanto River, and wild plants from Tsunoyamago to enjoy along with the views of the greenery outside its windows. There is also a camping ground located inside the park.

    This was the family temple of a senior Yamauchi clan official, and the garden is considered one of the top three feudal era Tosa gardens. Located on a hill in the Kamimachi district near Aoyama Bunko, it is also a prefectural Place of Scenic Beauty. A Rinzai Buddhist temple of the Myoshinji school, its garden has a pond and “borrowed scenery,” giving it a Zen feel. It also has beautiful cherry blossoms in the spring and colorful foliage in the fall.

    少人数で、ふらっと訪れるのがオススメです。運が良ければご住職のお話が聴けるかもしれません。 牧野公園の山野草を愛でたあとに静かに眺めると至福の時が訪れます。

The museum also holds a variety of special exhibits.

    たまたま立ち寄った博物館。全く下調べしないで行ったので、坂の途中の駐車場に素直に駐車したが、平日だったため、空きがあり、建物側でも良かったことを後で知り。 館内は、一部をのぞいて撮影可。 歴史から自然から芸術から、幅広い収集とゆとりある展示。 よくある「地方のなんとなく博物館」とは一線を画した素晴らしい博物館に関心。

    A small museum housing about 700 pieces by modern and contemporary painters, including late Edo period Ukiyo-e woodblock prints. Kochi Prefecture's first full-scale museum, it opened to the public in 1989. The collection and its white-walled antique storehouse-style building were donated to the town by the late Kikuichi Machida, a businessman from Yaiga, Nakatosa-cho. They have planned exhibits held in order four times a year.

    中土佐町久礼の美術館で久礼大正町市場の近くです。 こじんまりとした美術館ですが、コロナ禍で最近来場者が増えたらしいです。 明治時代の戦禍の絵画等落ち着いた雰囲気の中でじっくり鑑賞できます。

    This roadside station is located on the side of National Route 194 in Kuwaze, Ino Town, Agawa County. In addition to a shop offering Ino Town’s local specialties, soft-serve ice cream, and other items, the station also features a red spotted masu trout fishing hole that is open from May to November. The station has an attached hot spring inn and day spa, Konoka Onsen. Visitors can also enjoy a meal at the attached restaurant, which offers views of the Kuwaze River.
  • Cape Muroto Lighthouse

    This lighthouse is the symbol of Cape Muroto, which juts out into the deep-blue sea. The contrast between the chalk-white lighthouse and the vast ocean expanse is gorgeous, making it a popular spot for taking in the view. The lens has a diameter of 2.6 meters making it one of the largest in Japan. Every year on the Sundays before and after November 1st, a “Lighthouse Festival” is held and the interior is opened to the public.
  • Iwama Chinka Bridge

    This bridge is in Shimanto City, Kochi Prefecture. Designed to submerge when the river rises and to have as little impact on water flow as possible, it stands out for its lack of guard rails. It was built in 1966 and is 120 meters long. The surrounding scenery is particularly lovely, making it the most popular of the 47 “sinking bridges” along the Shimanto River.

    This roadside station standing next to Shimanto River, the river that is said to have the last clear stream in Japan, is in Nishi Tosa, Shimanto City, Kochi Prefecture, on National Route 441. Produce such as natural Ayu sweetfish and eel caught in the Shimanto River and locally grown organic vegetables and rice harvested in the mountainous areas are sold. In the facility, there is an Ayu market, where you can buy freshly cooked Ayu sweetfish grilled with salt, a market selling produce directly from the farmers, a cafeteria, and an observation deck, as well as a café where unique Shimanto sweets can be enjoyed.

    A literature museum showcasing the life and work of Tomie Ohara. In addition to displays of valuable items like drafts of manuscripts, they put a spotlight on her masterpiece “Woman Called En”-, illuminating Tomie Ohara’s world. The Anrian Tearoom expresses her spirit and is open to the public.

    本山城跡に行った後に都合により寄りましたが失礼ながら誰かも知りませんでした。正直採算が非常に気になりました。

    This roadside station is located on the side of the Kochi East Road in Soyama, Nankoku City. It features a shop that offers product such as local Kochi sweets, seared skipjack tuna, Shimantogawa nori (seaweed sheets), processed yuzu citrus products, local sake, and more. It also features a farmer’s market that offers fresh local produce and processed products such as Pirishaki-zuke. These pickles are made with Shihochiku, a type of bamboo shoot that is a specialty of Nankoku City. At the café restaurant, visitors can enjoy set meals, donburi (rice bowls), udon noodles, and other dishes featuring the tastes of Tosa such as their Tosa Ajiwai Gozen set meal. It also offers a breakfast buffet.

    This river gorge is located in Oya, Niyodogawa Town, Agawa County along Niyodo River, which is known as ''the Miraculous Stream'' for the high quality of its water. Visitors can enjoy viewing the beautiful ''Niyodo Blue'' surface of the river. There are a number of spots for visitors to check out, including several waterfalls as well as crystal pools that change appearance depending on the time and the season. The scenery is especially beautiful when the fall foliage or fresh greenery comes in.

    A tourist center in Kami City providing information on shopping, events, sightseeing, and local specialties. It is located in front of JR Tosa Yamada Station; look for the sign with the character Anpanman. They also have Takashi Yanase’s autograph and a revolving door showcasing special products.

    18きっぷの停車の時間が長かったので、駅舎の外に出てみました。スーパーマーケットの場所を尋ねたら、丁寧にレンタルの自転車(無料)を用意してくれました。
