Kouchi Pref. Muroto-shi Kiragawacho Ko 2200-1

Kiragawa-cho, Muroto City is a neighborhood that has retained its Meiji era townscape. Lined with merchant houses, storehouses, and other period buildings, it was the first district in Kochi Prefecture to be designated as a National Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings. The district is notable for its plaster walls, “mizukiri” drainage tiles, and its “ishiguro,” stone masonry outer walls built to protect homes from typhoons.

高知市から室戸岬に向かう途中に伝統的建造物群保存地区がひっそりとある。美しい四国漆喰の壁を守るために壁面に多重の屋根を配している。その伝統を守りながら現在も使い続けているところに価値がある。どの地方でもそうだが、過疎化に抗いながらの保存は並大抵の努力が必要である。

Kochi Pref. Konan City Akaokacho 538

This art museum is located in Akaoka-cho, Konan City. It stores the folding screen paintings by the late Edo to early Meiji period painter Ekin (Hirose Kinzo) that are displayed at the Suruda Hachimangu Jinsai festival held on July 14 and 15 each year. One exhibit allows visitors to view the folding screen paintings in the same dark setting as the night of the festival. Another allows visitors to view the paintings through a literal hole in the wall. The museum regularly rotates the paintings that are on display. It also features exhibits about the life of Ekin.

期待通りの屛風絵です。本物は覗き見で見ること可能な２点だが、複製展示の絵も迫力満点、たしかに“恐ろしく美しい”。2020の絵金祭りは中止と聞きましたが、次回の祭りが楽しみです。

This roadside station is located on the side of the Nakamura Highway in Hiragushi, Shimanto Town, Takaoka County. It sells local specialties with a focus on items from Shimanto Town and the Shimanto River watershed, local sake, Niidamai rice, processed ginger products (the area is Japan’s biggest producer of ginger), and more. Its restaurant provides items made with local seafood, the fruits and vegetable of the land. It also features a shop that carries produce grown by local farmers, processed products, and handicrafts, as well as a shop that specializes in ice cream made with fresh raw milk produced by dairy farmers in the Shimanto River watershed.

This is one stop you must do.Noce pork over rice. leave some space for those bbq pork along the walkway.

This memorial museum is located on the side of Prefectural Route 34 in Sanbashidori 4-Chome, Kochi City. The museum features exhibit on Tosa in the early modern period with a focus on the Freedom and People’s Rights Movement, Japan’s first national democracy movement. In the Minkenza theater, which recreates the atmosphere of the venues where members of the Freedom and People’s Rights Movement gave speeches, visitors can view a film about Ueki Emori, one of its key members. In addition to exhibit halls, the museum’s other facilities include a gallery, an event hall, a library, a local information room, and even a restaurant.

車で行きましたが、とさでんの電停(桟橋車庫前)から徒歩圏内の場所でした。駐車場は併設されていました。とさでんの一日乗車券があれば割引の対象でした。高知出身者を中心にした自由民権運動の資料館です。展示だけでなく映像上映もありました。このあと市内中心部などで民権運動の活動家の生誕地などを歩いたので、ここで見たことが予備知識として役に立ちました。勉強になる施設でした。展示は2Fで、1Fは市民講座のような...

This temple is located in Muroto-Anan Kaigan Quasi-National Park in Murotomisaki-cho, Muroto City. The 24th of the 88 temples on the Shikoku Pilgrimage, it was the first sacred site? in Kochi Prefecture. The temple is sometimes called Higash-dera (east temple) because of its juxtaposition with Kongochoji, also known as Nishi-dera (west temple), which is located on the western side of Murotomisaki Cape and is the 26th temple on the pilgrimage. The temple enshrines a number of Buddhist images that are nationally-designated Important Cultural Properties including the stone statue of Nyoirin Kannon sitting in half lotus position, the wooden seated statue of Yakushi Nyorai, and the wooden standing statue of the bodhisattvas Candraprabha.

ここの多宝塔は朱色ではなくピンク色になっています。建立当時は鮮やかな朱色であったものが、潮風などの影響を長年受けて変色したのかなと思いました。

Kouchi Pref. Takaokagunshimantochou Shigekushimachi 3-13

This temple belongs to the Chisan sect of Shingon Buddhism and is located in Shimanto Town in Takaoka County, Kochi Prefecture, and it is the 37th temple of the Shikoku 88-temple Pilgrimage. It is said that the Buddhist priest Gyoki founded it between 729 and 749, and it is known for its “seven wonders” that are associated with Kukai. There are principal images of five deities: Acala, Kannon, Amitabha, Bhaisajyaguru, and Ksitigarbha. The temple grounds contain the oldest hall with an enshrined statue of Kobo Daishi, as well as 575 ceiling paintings that adorn the main hall, constructed in 1978.

With its source high up in the 1,336 meter peaks of Mt. Irazu, a watershed of 2,270 square kilometers and a length of 196 kilometers, the Shimanto River is the longest river in Shikoku. Known as the last clear stream in Japan on account of there not being any dams the river still has much culture which links the people to the river such as the distinctive chinkabashi, or sinking bridges, designed so as not to be washed away in times of flood, as well as the various kinds of smoked fish which have resulted from the fishing in this area. The Shimanto River, blessed with a wide width and large volume of water, is gaining popularity as a Mecca for water sports such as canoing, boating, and wind surfing.

This roadside station is located on the side of National Route 439 in Tai, Tosa Town, Tosa County. It offers local products such as seasonal local produce, processed products made from yuzu citrus and other items, the local sake “Keigetsu”, handcrafts, and more. The station’s diner serves set meals and donburi (rice bowls) featuring Tosa Akaushi (a red-haired Japanese cattle breed from Kochi), noodle dishes, and more. There is also an attached woodworking shop where visitors can purchase made-to-order work products or take woodworking classes.

赤牛の串焼きが絶品と友人に勧められ訪問・・・土日だけの販売で、平日だったため串焼きも絶品ソフトも食べられず残念。お土産品はもちろん地元の野菜なども安価で販売されています。地元の酒蔵「桂月」のゆず酒yuzusake購入。家内は絶品と高評価でした。

This tourist boat operates in the Shimanto River. Its approximately hour-long regular services depart every hour from the boat dock located on the side of National Route 441 in Tadenokawa, Shimanto City. Passengers can see scenic sights such as the “Onigafuchi no Iwa” as well as seasonal sights such as Kishi azaleas and fireflies. Passengers who make reservations in advance can also enjoy bento boxes onboard the boat. Reservation-only gourmet charter courses are also offered.

This history museum is located in Okocho-yahata, Nankoku City. The Chosokabe Hall features exhibits related to the adjacent Oko Castle Ruins, a national Historic Site, as well as to the Chosokabe Clan, the warlords of the Tosa domain. The General Exhibit Hall covers the history and culture of Kochi from primeval times to the modern period. Its permanent exhibits include a recreation of the stronghold of Chosokabe forces during the Battle of Awa-Nakatomigawa, Odo-yaki ware fired in the kilns of the Tosa Domain during the Edo Period, and more. The museum also hosts special exhibitions on the history and folk customs of Tosa, museum talk shows, workshops, and other events.

空港へ向かう途中に少し時間があったので立ち寄りました。JAFの割引対象になっていました。駐車場は前にあり2Fが入り口になっており駐車場からは階段、スロープとエレベーターが設置されていました。展示は長曾我部氏などの山内氏以前時代が中心で古い時代からの高知県の歴史は参考になりました。途中の坂道が桜並木になっていて桜を見に来ている家族づれがいました。

This is a base facility for the Muroto UNESCO Global Geopark. You should come here first when you visit the Geopark for the visitor center and information center. The Muroto UNESCO Global Geopark is introduced on a large screen at the Geo Theater using high resolution images. They also introduce goods and various hands-on programs.

Kochi Shimanto-shi Nakamurahonmachi 1-11

A shrine constructed in 1862 by volunteers to commemorate the Tosa Ichijo clan at the site of the Ichijo Family's mausoleum at the Nakamura Gosho Ruins on Mt. Komori. Historic sites related to the Ichijos on the grounds include Fujimi-no Goten ato (site of a wisteria viewing hall) and Kesho-no-Ido well. Yuing Shimanto is a tourist center located just across the Niida River after getting off the Kochi Expressway’s Shimantocho Chuo Interchange. It provides a toilet and a restaurant that is mainly used as the rest spot by tourists who have been driving a long time. The restaurant offers a number of dishes, and they have a morning breakfast buffet that the locals also love. They also sell specialty products from the Shimanto River basin. Try the freshly prepared onigiri rice balls made with Niida rice, also called “fragrant rice.”

The Sadachinka Bridge, a typical “chinka”, or sinking bridge, able to sustain flooding on the lower parts of the Shimanto River, is the longest of the more than 40 so called sinking bridges on the Shimanto River boasting a length of 291.6 meters and a width of 4.2 meters. In order to prevent being washed away during high floods, these submersible bridges were built without railings. Visitors can enjoy the pleasant feeling of the cool breeze as they cross the bridge on foot with many tourists coming to visit throughout the year.

西土佐道の駅から少し四万十川上流にあります。車で５分かからないと思います。橋には駐車スペースがありませんので注意が必要です。短めの沈下橋なので河原に下りたり渡り切ったり楽しむことが出来ます。

This museum is located in Kashiwagi, Kitagawa Village, Aki County. It features exhibits related to Nakaoka Shintaro, a samurai who played a major role in the Satsuma-Choshu Alliance alongside Sakamoto Ryoma. These exhibits include videos and panels on the life of Nakaoka as well as valuable historical artifacts. The museum also holds special exhibits about the Bakumatsu, the final years of the Edo period.

こんな片田舎に凛々しくたたずむ立派な資料館。幕末の志士として坂本龍馬が有名ですが、中岡慎太郎の生い立ちや業績を知れば知るほど彼がいてこその坂本龍馬だと知ることができました。
