    Ehime Pref. Imabarishi Omishimachourado 2418
This modern architecture museum can be found on Omishima Island, which is located along the Shimanami Kaido Expressway in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture. In addition to exhibits featuring blueprints and other works handled by one of Japan’s most famous architects, Toyo Ito, there’s also a recreation of his former residence. Seemingly formed from several polyhedrons combined, the building itself is one of Ito’s creations, and with the Seto Inland Sea in the backdrop, it truly feels like a work of art. There’s also a workspace for researchers and students.

    Ehime Imabari-shi Kamiuracho Inokuchi 7505
This museum is located inside of Tatara Shimanami Park in Iguchi, Kamiura-cho, Imabari City. It possesses a collection of 3,800 works of art including calligraphy and Nihonga (Japanese painting). The most notable of these are 850 works by the calligrapher Santo Murakami, who was a native of the area. The museum also features a history and folk culture resource room, an art studio, a multipurpose hall, and other facilities.

This was one of several stops I made while bike riding along the Shimanami Kaido route from Onomichi to Imabari. The museum is right about the halfway point, located at the western end of the Tatara...

Ehime Areas

around-area-map

Stretched across the northwest corner of Shikoku island, Ehime is a nature-rich prefecture boasting beautiful coastlines and a rural center where mountains play host to 26 of the Buddhist temples that make up the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Matsuyama is home to an original post-feudal castle as well as Dogo Onsen, one of the country’s oldest natural hot springs. The northern city of Imabari marks the entrance to the Shimano Kaido, a road that crosses six spectacular bridges and several islands, forming a route between Shikoku and mainland Honshu.
