    Ehime Pref. Kitagunuchikochou Uchiko 1938
The Museum of Commercial and Domestic Life is located in Uchiko Town. The building that houses the Museum is itself of great interest, having formerly been an apothecary’s shop that operated during the Edo and Meiji periods. Mannequins and period utensils are used to recreate the scene in the apothecary’s shop as it would have been in years gone by; the unique, highly-realistic mannequins surprise visitors by welcoming them using authentic phrases (researched with experts familiar with the period). The realistic scenes—which include the owners’ family eating together with the apprentices, the housemaid cooking a meal, and little details such as someone talking to himself as he works—are very popular with visitors. Models are used to present information about Uchiko Town’s history and way of life, famous local individuals, etc.

Another reason to stop by in Uchiko. This gives a general history of what it was like to work in a traditional Japanese shop, and there's a remarkable attention to detail - old rooms, wax dolls that...

The museum displays important artifacts and related works on the Noshima Murakami clan, as well as old documents, reconstructed models, and pieces unearthed during excavations. The observation room with views overlooking the ruins of Noshima Castle, and the area where visitors can try on for themselves some armor and garments are also popular.

The science museum has three permanent exhibition halls (the nature hall, the science and technology hall and the industry hall) and a huge planetarium 30 meters in diameter which has featured in the Guinness Book of Records. The centerpiece of the museum is a real dinosaur robot that moves. The museum plays host to many temporary exhibitions and hands-on events making it a great place to come for the whole family.

I loved this museum. We took our 5 year old daughter here and spent at least 4 hours exploring the 4 levels and surroundings. The building itself is a great architectural work. There are many...

Imabari is Japan’s leading producer of towels in terms of volume. At Texport Imabari, visitors can observe Imabari’s towel manufacturing process, try making their own towel, and so on. The headquarters also has a wide variety of Imabari-brand towel products for sale.

We heard a lot about Imabari towels and wanted to find out why they are so special. We didn't really learn from this museum because the main display area was closed for repairs. Too bad. So we had to...

The building was constructed as the main branch of the Oozu Commercial Bank in 1901, and is a blend of Japanese and Western-style architecture, featuring British bricks and a tiled roof. The building is now used to sell local crafts and special products, and there is a place for tourists to take a break on the second floor.

This museum introduces and exhibits items related to the history and folklore of Ehime Prefecture. The expansive structure houses four historic and folklore exhibit rooms, and workshop classrooms. In addition to the displayed objects, on display are many scale-model replicas of iconic structures such as pit dugout dwellings, a town house during the Sengoku Age of Civil Wars, and a pre-war village main street, each depicting respective periods, affording one a sense of being transported back in time.

The museum is out of the way, about 1.5 hour from Matsuyama. However, the drive was scenic, we deliberately avoided using the tolled IC to see the country side. It is a huge museum and it was...

"This is the symbol of ""Stone Town Miyakubo-cho"" which has been producing beautiful durable Oshima-ishi granite since the start of the Edo-period. Oshima-ishi granite, which is as smooth to the touch as celadon porcelain, is marked by unwillingness to fade, with its deep grey increasing as time passes. It is used in both the National Diet Building and the imperial Akasaka Estate. There are displays on Oshima-ishi granite as well as other types of stone from around the world and you can learn about the history and culture of stone work. Unique stone works and monuments are dotted about the grounds and along with the main building there are grounds available for baseball and tennis and a multipurpose auditorium."

    広い運動場のほか、体育館、野球場等が整備された大きな公園です。格安に宿泊できる施設や食堂施設もあります。

This commodity manufacturing museum was built to resemble the Belvedere Palace in Vienna, Austria. It was founded on the site of the Nihon Shokken Holdings Ehime main office as a transmission base of world food culture. There are two tour courses to choose from; the Food Culture Museum Course (takes around three and a half hours) which includes lunch at the staff cafeteria, and the Palace Course which centers around the KO Palace factory. It is the world's only museum that showcases a wide range of information about the food culture of the world, from the things that are actually put in the mouth to the ingredients, utensils, tableware, and meal etiquette.

Ehime Main Areas

around-area-map

Stretched across the northwest corner of Shikoku island, Ehime is a nature-rich prefecture boasting beautiful coastlines and a rural center where mountains play host to 26 of the Buddhist temples that make up the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Matsuyama is home to an original post-feudal castle as well as Dogo Onsen, one of the country's oldest natural hot springs. The northern city of Imabari marks the entrance to the Shimano Kaido, a road that crosses six spectacular bridges and several islands, forming a route between Shikoku and mainland Honshu.
