Located in the Honmura district of Naoshima Town, Cafe Salon Nakaoku is a secluded, home-like café in a refurbished traditional farmhouse. The café owner is a native-born Naoshima islander. The café is renowned for its coffee, particularly its original-blend coffees with a “fruity” flavor that are the house specialty, but there is also a wide range of alcoholic beverages available. Cafe Salon Nakoku is located about three minutes’ walk from Minamidera with its Art House Project, in which a vacant house has been repurposed as an art museum. The café is a great place to unwind in a relaxing atmosphere.

I was attracted by the many high ratings, and it was good but not that special. We walked from Miyanoura port, a little under 2km, an easy walk. The setting is very attractive, an old house set up...

There are plenty of things for visitors to experience such as feeding the manatees, seeing the dolphins up close and touching them from the glass-bottom boat, and touching the sea lions, etc. They also have a live show featuring the dolphins and staff.

Each freshly-cooked noodle has a prominent edge which gives a firm, al dente texture. The most popular dish is the Kakiage Oroshi Udon topped with a giant mixed vegetable tempura.

    Kagawa Pref. Takamatsushi Banchou 5-2-23
Sakaeda is a handmade udon noodle restaurant located behind the Kagawa Prefectural Office in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, popular with office workers and locals. There are five kinds of udon to choose from off the menu including kake udon (udon noodles in broth), kamaage udon (noodles straight from the pot) and udon with raw egg. The broth and toppings are all self service. The flavor of the dried young sardine coming through in the broth together with the firm, chewy textured noodles is perfect. They have dozens of tempura toppings to enjoy together with your noodles. Sakaeda is open from 5:30 in the morning to 3:00 in the afternoon (closes early if sold out of noodles for the day).

The udon is average at best. Tempura items taste like they have been fried 3 days ago. Messy ordering and payment system. Will not be back.

Kagawa Main Areas

around-area-map

Japan’s smallest prefecture, Kagawa, may take up just a small corner of Shikoku, but it has grown increasingly popular with the recognition of Naoshima, its "art island" in the Seto Inland Sea between Shikoku and Honshu. Just a stone’s throw from the islands, mainland Kagawa’s prefectural capital, Takamatsu, holds history in its castle ruins and its pride and joy, Ritsurin Garden, is known as one of the country’s best gardens.
