    A famous spot for hydrangeas in the hills of Hikari Sports Park. There are about 15,000 plants of about 30 native and non-native species including Gaku hydrangea, Lorelei, and bigleaf hydrangea. They are usually in full bloom from early to late June when the slope is covered in a profusion of blooming hydrangeas. During the period it's lit up until 9 p.m., offering more mysterious scenery than during the day. An observatory at the top of the walkway's stairs lets you look down on the hydrangeas in bloom across the slope.

    "This agritourism farm is located inside ""Sugane Fruit Land."" It has grown grapes, pears and blueberries and other fruit for three generations since its establishment. It is characterized by cultivating a wide variety, including 20 types of grapes and 15 types of pears, in the hope that we will try to find our favorite by comparing them. To ensure that even small children can eat with peace of mind, it is working on growing safe and secure fruit with fewer pesticides than usual. Original sweets are sold in the attached cafe. You can enjoy blueberry tarts made with freshly picked blueberries picked on the farm, and soft-serve ice cream."

  • Takase Gorge

    This gorge is located upstream on the Shimaji River. It is known as a canyon where you can enjoy the beauty of nature from season to season, and the splash of the waterfall and the flow of water dancing wildly between the steep and strange rocks attracts visitors. The surrounding 260 hectares is a prefecture-designated green zone environmental conservation area. There is a promenade along the gorge where you can walk while viewing Japanese wisterias and azaleas in early summer and colorful leaves in the autumn. The area is dotted with strange rocks and waterfalls, and there are resting places at each.

    This artificial lake was created when constructing the Shimaji River Dam. There is an observatory dam park and hiking course maintained around the Shimaji River Dam built for the purpose of providing city water, flood prevention and preservation of the river environment. It is also famous as having some of the best autumn leaves in the prefecture with cherry blossoms and maple trees planted around it and many hikers visiting in the autumn.

    道の駅の海側エリアがレストラン営業となっていました。ゆっくり食事を摂る時間帯でも無かった為、レジ横の「てんぷら」と持帰り用の鯛めしだけ購入してみました。因みにレストランエリアの営業時間は短く、実態としてはランチ営業のみのようでした。

    バリアフリーで拝殿前まで上がれる。ただし、石畳や砂利の所も多いので、車椅子は少し難儀かもしれないと思った。大木が林立する中にあることで神聖な雰囲気が醸し出され、いろいろな由緒がありそうな神社。説明書きによると、女性神職の誕生やおみくじの普及に関係しているらしい。

    役場の向かいの高台にある立派なお寺。ただ、この地域の人たちに支えられた、この地域の人たちのためのお寺であって、観光地ではないので、その辺をわきまえないといけないと思った。

    このダムの下流にあたる高瀬峡は、清流流れる紅葉や新緑の名所。またダム湖沿いの道路を行っても、せせらぎスポット等がある。車で行くには道が狭かったり、見通しが良くなかったりするが（先日は崖崩れか何かで通行止めになっていた）、合わせて行ったらばいいドライブとリフレッシュになった。また、ここのダムをイメージしたカレーライスが市内の道の駅のレストランにあるようなので、今度、トライしてみようと思った。

    元々は旧山陽道沿いにあり、2回移築されて現在地に建てられた江戸時代の武家屋敷らしい。入場は無料。玄関に入ったら、係の人が出てこられて、建物の構造の特徴等について概略の説明（詳細は質問応需）を受けることができた。各部屋には、昔の当主と与謝野鉄幹・晶子夫妻、楫取素彦夫妻との交流を示す書簡等、この地域や萩城下の古地図も展示されていて興味深かった。隠し部屋等もあるが、入れるわけではなかった。

    櫛ヶ浜駅直ぐ近くに立つ寺院でした。目の前と云って良さそうでしたが、駅舎とは反対側にある為、遠回りせざるを得ない立地でした。少し高台になっている為、境内に上がるには石段か坂がありましたが、逆に境内からの眺望は開けていました。

    室津港を見下ろす賀茂神社の境内に上がるとその横から更に上がった場所に朱塗りの鳥居が連続していました。この鳥居群を抜けると稲荷神社の社殿が立っていました。やや木立が多いものの山上の神社風となっており、所謂「境内社」の稲荷社を超えるような社殿となっていました。
