    隣が民俗学者の宮本常一の記念館です。これは小学校の体育館のようなイメージですが、星野哲郎の記念館は、モダンな美術館のイメージですね。皆が知っている歌をたくさん作っていますので、周防大島に行ったらぜひ尋ねたい場所です。

Their specialties include their sanzokuyaki (""bandit-style"" char-grilled chicken legs), sanzoku musubi (""bandit-style"" rice balls), and sanzoku udon (""bandit-style"" udon noodles). Other offerings include char-grilled Sumeragi beef as well as dishes featuring river fish such as masu salmon and sweetfish. The restaurant also a cafe menu including coffee and sweets. Its building features a motif based on Yamagata Prefecture's kabutozukuri taso minka (multi-level folk homes with helmet-shaped gables). The restaurant offers a variety of seating options available including counter seating around a traditional Japanese sunken hearth, horigotatsu (sunken kotatsu), and private rooms.     広島市内から津和野、萩に向かう道中で立ち寄りました。 玖珂店には何度も来たことがありますが、ここのお店は今回が初めてでした。 外席も充実している点は玖珂店とさほど相違ない規模で、待ち時間も敷地内の散策で時間を持て余しませんでした。 定番の「山賊むすび」と「山賊焼」を注文。 「山賊むすび」の程よいワサビがいい感じです。

It's housed in the Iwakuni Gakko Kosha; built in 1870 by the second lord of Iwakuni, Tsunetake Kikkawa, it's a prefectural Tangible Cultural Property. The museum exhibits educational materials and items from the region. Also exhibited are materials related to Ichisuke Fujioka; an Iwakuni Gakko graduate, he was the founder of Tokyo Electric Power Company, the first electric company in Japan.

    錦帯橋観光後、立寄りました。見た目以上に美味しくまた食べに行きたくなります。 旅館なので、正面玄関は素敵な庭園で大きな錦鯉も飼育されていて素敵でした。

    """Machishu culture"" is the culture of the common people built up in the Kuka area, which was a part of the industrial structure from the middle ages to early modern period. The Yahata Lifelong Learning Village is a learning facility with a library, pottery museum and early Showa period farmhouse as a base for handing down the culture of the town. Visitors can learn about unique urban planning and culture through the exhibition of tools and daily necessities used by soy sauce brewers, ship builders, blacksmiths and others. In addition to regular pottery classes, the museum also offers one-day pottery workshops such as forming pottery by hand instead of using a potter's wheel, slab building, and making a pottery lathe."

    This museum has a very nice collection. It is worth seeing, but unfortunately, the descriptions is only written in japanese so you might want to ask your friends for translation.

    A 1,020-meter-long bridge between Yanai City and Suo-Oshima Town, Oshima County in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The bridge was constructed with continuous trusses on the world’s first multi-pillar foundation in order to combat tidal damage. There is a footpath on the east side of the bridge, which guests can walk or bike along. It’s a very popular spot to shoot scenes for movies and commercials.

This beach has been chosen as one of the Top 100 Comfortable Beaches of Japan and Japan’s top 88 beaches, which attracts a lot of tourists during the swimming season. The park also has a camping ground and exercise facilities."

    素晴らしい透明度を誇るビーチです。ホテルに滞在して、ゆったりビーチで寛ぐ。まさに「瀬戸内のハワイ」ですね。ちょうど水上バイクの大会が行われており、夏の終わりを締めくくるイベントの感じでにぎわっていました。

    The Iwakuni Castle Ropeway runs from in front of Kikko Park in Yokoyama, Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, up to the summit of Shiroyama at a height of about 200 meters. From the window of the 30-person gondola travelers can look out over the former castle town and streets of Iwakuni, Kintai Bridge, one of Japan’s three famous bridges, and the Seto Inland Sea. The journey time is about three minutes one way. Dogs and cats weighing less than 10 kilos can be taken in the gondolas provided they are in a pet cage. At the plaza outside the mountaintop station look out for the mechanical clock which plays music at regular intervals. There is also a play area for children and an observation deck. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the station at the top to Iwakuni Castle.

    This 300-meter-tall gorge in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture is one of the three largest gorges in Nishi-Chugoku Sanchi Quasi-National Park. The gorge splits into Inumodoshi Gorge and Ryugatake Gorge, with many waterfalls lining the Inumodoshi Gorge trail and strangely shaped rocks and grottos along Ryugatake Gorge. The gorge is also used for cultivating wasabi as well as drinking water because of its abundant springs. It was selected as one of Japan's 100 remarkable waters with a wide variety of flora and fauna.

    The Mekata Family Residence is a mid-level samurai residence which was built in the middle of the Edo period. Iwakuni’s samurai residences were usually two-story constructions as a protection against flooding of the Nishikigawa River, and although the Mekata Family Residence is also a two-story construction, it looks as though it is a one-story house since the front has a large main roof without any windows. This style of construction is to have given consideration to avoid looking down upon the clan’s lord when he passed by. It was designated a as National Important Cultural Property in 1974.

    "Located an eight-minute drive from the Iwakuni Interchange on the Sanyo Expressway, this is one of the few art museums in Japan for old armor, and is in front of Iwakuni Castle Ropeway Mountain Foot Station. Storing approximately 6,000 pieces of armor such as suit armor and swords from the Nara period (710-794) to the Edo period (1603-1868), old documents, writings and old mirrors, it exhibits about 200 pieces including the famous Kawanakajima Kassenzu, a folding screen with eight panels painted the battle of Kawanakajima. In addition to the ""Life and Death Culture"" exhibition, which introduces armor with the lives of samurai, and ""Cultures of Life"" exhibition, which introduces the traditional culture that colored the lives of samurai, various special exhibitions and exhibitions are also held."

    "Located a 30-minute drive from the Iwakuni Interchange on the Sanyo Expressway or the Muikaichi Interchange on the Chugoku Expressway, this huge water wheel 12 meters in diameter was made using specially made cedar in 1990. It is near ""Negasaiwaya Kannon,"" where a wooden Buddha state dedicated by Kobo Daishi is said to have become a Buddha statue like stalactite over a long period of time after being exposed to water droplets including lime, and it suddenly appears when you approach along the path to the temple. It reopened after renovations in March 2010."

    This waterfall is located along the Futashika River, a tributary of the Nishiki River, in Futashika, Iwakuni City. The gorge along the river has seven waterfalls including Umezu Falls, Ninotaki Falls, Hiryu Falls, and Kirikakure Falls, which are collectively referred to as the Futashika Falls. Legend has it that in Heian period a man known as Umezu Chujo Kiyokage, having been tasked with exterminating a two-headed deer that appeared on Kyoto's Mt. Hiei, tracked the beast to this area, where he finally destroyed it. Visitors can enjoy activities such as camping and walking the promenade that has been built in the area.

    These streets represent the Yanai City during the Edo period. Yanai prospered as the storehouse for the Iwakuni domain. The town bustling with carts loaded with produce traversing its streets. Approximately 200 meters of streets are preserved with the white-walled lattice-windowed merchant stores and street shops. This area has been designated a National Important Preservation District of Historic Buildings, with many places to see including the merchant museum, Muroyanosono; the Important Cultural Property, Kunimori residence; and the former house of Kunikida Doppo. Prior to the summer Kingyo, gold fish, Festival, goldfish shaped lanterns are hung under the eaves and create a dream-like atmosphere.
