    Yamaguchi Pref. Mineshi Mitouchouaka 1212
A safari park-style zoo located in Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture where visitors can view wild animals from a vehicle in settings close to their natural environment. In the Safari Zone, visitors can view African elephants, huge American black bears, lions, tigers, and more, either from their own car or a reservable bus tour which includes a chance to feed some of the animals. The park’s petting zoo, where visitors can play with and feed cute animals such as kangaroos and capybaras, is also quite popular. The zoo also has rare live white tiger and white lion exhibits. Finally, the park has a restaurant and an amusement park area with a giant Ferris wheel and roller coasters, ensuring families can enjoy an entire, fun-filled day here.

Nothing special, but it was decent. Good food and good price. If you arrive near the lunch time, you can eat here to save time, because there seem to be nothing around here.

    Yamaguchi Pref. Shunanshi Tokuyama 5846
This zoo, located in Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, exhibits a variety of animals including monkeys, raccoons, hippopotamus and other mammals, birds and reptiles. The zoo is set out so that visitors can see the animals up close and there are also many experience type events. In addition, it was also the location of the residence of Mori from the former Tokuyama Domain so is famous as an historic site and for cherry blossom viewing.
  • Tokiwa Zoo

    Yamaguchi Pref. Ubeshi Norisada 3-4-1
This zoo is located inside the Tokiwa Park in Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and it became famous for the white pelican “Katta-kun,” who would play with the children at the kindergarten nearby. A large-scale renovation took place in 2012, and all the exhibits were redone to imitate the animals’ natural habitats. The park is divided into four zones: Asia, Latin America, Africa, and Yamaguchi Ube. It has the largest number of lar gibbons of any zoo in Japan, and visitors can observe many other flourishing species as well.

Yamaguchi Areas

Heading west along Japan's largest island, Honshu, the very last prefecture you'll reach is Yamaguchi, separated from Kyushu by a small strip of water known as the Kanmon Straits, which the far-reaching harbor city Shimonoseki looks over. With water at every turn, the seafood of Yamaguchi is an indisputable highlight, and we're not talking just the usual fish dishes—the notorious fugu, or puffer fish, is a Japanese delicacy that was discovered in Yamaguchi prefecture, making it the best place to try it out.
