A comprehensive leisure facility located on a large hill in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture that has also famously been used as the setting for movies. The grounds host an amusement park where you can enjoy over 20 attractions; a dinosaur park filled with moving dinosaur models, including a 13 meter long T-rex; a street recreating an early 1960s Japanese townscape; a hot spring bath facility; hotels; and more. This is a temple which was considered to have been built by Kuya Shonin in the middle of the Heian period. The Taichoro Reception Hall was built in 1694 as the reception hall of Fukuzenji Temple, and it was used as a reception hall to host Korean envoys. As the building and related artifacts from the time of the envoy have been preserved, the hall was designated as a National Historic Site as the “historic ruins used for the Korean envoy on the grounds of Fukuzenji Temple” in 1994.

A Buddhist temple in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture. The principal object of worship in the Shingon sect Daikakuji school temple is the Eleven-Faced Kannon Bosatsu. First established in 807 by Kukai the main hall and five-story pagoda have been designated National Treasures of Japan. The standing statue of the Eleven-Faced Kannon Bosatsu has also been designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. When the Shoin (lecture hall) and Kuri (kitchen and living quarters) are open to the public on the third Saturday of every month, you can receive information about the temple and hospitality from volunteer members of the Myooin Temple Appreciation Society.

草戸稲荷神社の隣にある由緒正しいお寺。こちらは国宝が2つもあるのに、神社に比べ空いてました。国宝の本堂、五重の塔は14世紀のものです。かなり状態はよく五重塔は日本で5番目に古い塔だそうです。でも拝観料無料というのがよいですね。

This tourist information center is located in Tomo-cho, Fukuyama City. The center is situated on the Seto Inland Sea coastline in Tomonoura, called the gateway to Tomo district. It offers a large selection of tourism information for the Tomonoura (Tomo Bay) area. Pamphlets and maps of the region are available also. One can purchase local products such as Houmeishu liquor, and snapper fish products such as tubular fish-paste and miso, and sweets that make good gifts in the adjoining shop. The prepared dishes, snapper rice and sushi items are considered to be specialty foods of the Seto Island Sea.

観光センターとバスセンターを兼ねた施設でした。観光案内も行われているのでしょうが、土産物店と云うのが実態のようで地元及び周辺の土産物が揃っていました。但し、よくよく製造場所を確認しなければ地元の土産物とは云えそうに無いものもあるようで、今回はレモン塩を土産として購入しました。猶、館内の一角には「鞆鉄道資料館」としてスペースが割かれ、鉄道現役時の展示物等が並んでいました。

Hiroshima Pref. Fukuyamashi Tomochou Tomo 843-1

A museum located in Tomo Town, Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture which presents materials tracing the history of the Iroha-maru, a ship used by famous historical personage Sakamoto Ryoma and his trading company, Kaientai. In 1867, the Iroha-maru collided with a warship belonging to Kishu Domain and sank in the sea off Tomo. Housed inside an old kura storehouse, the museum displays items brought back from surveys of the wreck, photographs, and dioramas. On the second floor, there is a recreation of the hidden room Ryoma used while staying in Tomo. This exhibit in particular makes a popular spot to take a commemorative photo or two.

鞆港の常夜燈手前に展示館がありました。建物自体は登録有形文化財に指定されたレトロ建築の土蔵をそのまま利用しており、重厚な印象を受けました。猶、展示物は坂本龍馬に関するものが中心となっており鞆の浦観光の一環として入館する人が多いようでした。

This castle in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture is also known as Hisamatsu Castle and Iyo Castle. It was selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Castles. Originally built in 1622 the five-story main keep was destroyed by fire in battle and then rebuilt. Inside the castle you will find exhibits of the personal items of the local lords and artifacts excavated from the medieval town of Kusado Sengen.

昔、鏡を収納していたことからその名前がついたと言われる鏡櫓です。再建してコンクリート造りになっていますが、歴史を感じさせるたたずまいです。

This museum is located in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture. The museum primarily exhibits artifacts excavated from Kusado Sengen, a medieval town buried in the bed of the Ashida River. This is a museum located in Tomo Town, Fukuyama City. It collects and displays historic and cultural material related to Setouchi, focusing on Tomonoura and its harbor that relied on the tides for ships to be able to enter and leave, and flourished since the Manyoshu era. In addition to regular exhibitions such as a diorama of snapper fishery and an anchor making foundry, folk custom documents relating to Shinto priests, memorabilia of the koto musician Miyagi Michio, who was deeply involved in Tomonoura history, are also on display. Other exhibitions and special exhibitions are also held.

Hiroshima Fukuyama-shi Tomochoushiroji 1225

This ancient Shinto shrine is also known as the Tomogiongu. The shrine is said to have been established as a funeral site and shrine to pray for marine transportation safety during the reign of Emperor Chuai (149-200). It is also said that a Noh stage on the shrine’s grounds was a favorite play-viewing destination for mighty samurai lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Today, the stage is a permanent fixture, but it has been designated a National Important Cultural Property as the only extant disassemblable Noh stage in the country. The historic shrine is even noted in the Heian period “Engi-Shiki” book of laws and customs. Dedicated to Susanoo-no-Mikoto and Watatsumi-no-Mikoto, the shrine is known to locals as “Gion-san.”

Hiroshima Pref. Fukuyamashi Tomochou Ushiroji 1397

A Shingon sect temple built in the mountainside in Tomo Town in Fukuyama City. It is said that it was opened by Kobo Daishi in the Heian period. It was destroyed by a fire, but since restored. The main statue is a standing wooden statue of Yakushi Nyorai (Buddha of Healing) and was designated as an Important Cultural Property of the prefecture. It is a perfect viewing spot overlooking the coming and going of boats in the harbor which prospered as a port that relied on the tide.

坂道を上がって行きました。境内自体は広く無い印象でしたが、山腹に位置するだけあって開放感がありました。特に海側、鞆の浦の眺望が素晴らしく、暫く眺めてしまう程でした。因みに、本土より御影堂の方が大きな建物のようでした。

Hiroshima Fukuyama-shi Tomochoushiroji 990-1

Ankokuji temples are Buddhist temples which were built in each province by Ashikaga Tadayoshi, brother to the shogun Ashikaga Takauji, to memorialize those who died in the years of war and fighting which occurred during the Northern and Southern Courts period. Records state this particular Ankokuji was founded by the priest Gukoku Osho in 1339 and was named the Kinpoji at that time. The temple experienced a decline but later received a significant donation from the samurai lord Mori Terumoto in 1599 and was restored to its former glory by Mori clan diplomat and Buddhist monk Ankokuji Ekei. The temple possesses numerous cultural properties, such as its Shakado hall; a rock garden; and a statue depicting the Amitabha triad, the temple’s principal object of worship. In spring, the cherry trees in front of the Shakado are lit up at night while in bloom, and the temple is a famous cherry blossom-viewing destination in the Tomonoura area.

参道脇に「國寶安國寺釋迦堂」の石碑が立ち、反対側の標識には「鞆町後地備後国安国寺前御幸二丁目」と仁丹の上に記されていました。その安国寺とあっては現在の釈迦堂前に広島県史跡指定の説明板が立ち由来が良くわかるようになっていました。臨済宗妙心寺派の境内に入るには山門側からとなっており境内は庭園風に整えられていました。

At this Rinzai-sect Myoshin school Buddhist Temple in Fukuyama City, the principal image of worship is the Eleven-faced Kannon. Said to have been built by Emperor Kazan in 992, the temple has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The crimson lacquered Kannon Hall standing above the Seto Inland Sea and the rough rock face gives both a sense of thrill and picturesque beauty. It is said that praying at the temple will give mothers easy childbirth or bless couples with children.

Famous for its sea bream fishing nets, Tomonoura in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture is where you can find Tomo Higoya, a shop which specializes in sea bream miso. The shop opened in 2013 in an old Edo period merchant house. The sea bream miso is a local traditional dish made by simmering sea bream from Setouchi with locally produced miso and mirin, sake, and soy sauce, etc. The smell of Japanese peppers in the miso arouses a taste that can be enjoyed in various ways such as with rice, or eaten together with a glass of sake, or with ochazuke (boiled rice with tea). They have three kinds of flavors, red, white and sesame. Other things the shop sells include rolled sushi with sea bream miso and laver boiled in soy sauce.

建物は江戸時代から続いているそうです。鯛味噌が有名です。イートインもできますし、手土産としても利用できます。

This bus center is situated on the coast on the eastern side of the Tomonoura area. Since it opened in 2005, it has served a variety of functions as a base for sightseeing in Tomonoura right in front of the Tomonoura bus stop. Facilities include a parking area for large busses, a souvenir and gift shop, and a cafe terrace. Tomonoura croquettes and octopus balls, famous local treats, are sold in the eat-in area. The souvenir shop carries an abundant selection of items, including chikuwa fish paste tube cakes made by Uohisa, a longstanding company established in 1897; and Onomichi ramen made by Amochinmi.

福山から鞆の浦までバスで来ます。ほんとこのバスにはお世話になってます。福山からだと終点の鞆港で降りる人もいますがここで下車して歩くのがおすすめです。
