A studio and shop selling products made with Onomichi canvas, a traditional area specialty product, located a 12 minute walk from Onomichi Station. Using canvas made in a factory on the Mukaishima Island in Onomichi City, the shop makes and sells bags and other accessories for everyday use. Once used for ships’ sails, Onomichi canvas is tough and breathable, and products made from it make popular souvenirs which only become more attractive with use. People also love the shop’s use of hand-sewing, which is both durable and adds a certain unique warmth. From tote bags to shoulder bags, the shop carries a wide variety of items and can also make accessories to order. Onomichi Hanpu also holds reservation-only classes on weekdays where you can make a coaster with Onomichi canvas.

A small sweets shop located a three minute walk from Onomichi Station identifiable by its old-fashioned orange and white-striped cloth awning. The shop sells popular treats made with select ingredients, such as the signature Onomichi pudding made with milk from cows living on farms in Hiroshima, local fresh eggs, and Hokkaido beet sugar. This popular pudding has a smooth texture and deep flavor, and is fast becoming a new standard Onomichi souvenir among tourists. People also love the cute jars the pudding is sold in, which is decorated with the shop’s wildcat mark. Add a little of the provided lemon sauce to enjoy a refreshing flavor differing from that of the pudding eaten plain. The shop also sell’s popular baked sweets such as biscotti and cookies.

    2回目の来店。レモンソースをかけて食べる尾道プリンは絶品です。並んでも買いたい味。キャッシュレスも利用できるようになっていました。

This porcelain shop is located in Onomichi, known for both its literary history and its hills, and has been in business for over 100 years. The longstanding establishment is situated on the Onomichi Hondori Shopping Street and exudes an aura of history yet also carries novel items not beholden to convention. Many of the shop’s products are one-of-a-kind, including porcelain figures bearing cute expressions and messages, and original cat-themed cards and figurines created by local artisans. Hiroshima Areas

around-area-map

There is more than meets the eye awaiting any Hiroshima-bound traveler. Kicking off in Hiroshima city, the Peace Memorial Park, Hiroshima Castle, and Shukkeien Garden offer a couple of days of exploring; however, the real beauty lies along the southern coast of the prefecture. There, a series of islands spreads across the Seto Inland Sea: from the mysterious sea-submerged Great Torii Gate at Miyajima Island to the first half of the islands that connect Honshu to Shikoku via six spectacular suspension bridges.
