    Okayama Kurashiki-shi Shimosho
The Seto Ohashi Onsen Yamakou hotel has been a Kurashiki City staple for over 25 years; the hotel's bathhouse, particularly popular with senior citizens, draws its waters from a natural hot spring containing an abundance of sodium from 1,106 meters below ground. This bathhouse is open to non-guests, as well. The hotel's spring's waters are 30° and, after being further heated to 40° C, are used for all the bathhouse' tubs. The spring generates an abundant 650 liters per minute, and any water spilling out of the tubs is allowed to drain away rather than being recirculated. The spring's waters are said to treat a wide array of ailments, including nerve pain, muscle soreness, bruises, sensitivity to cold, cuts, burns, and women's diseases; they are also believed to aid recovery from fatigue and alleviate stress. There is another Seto Ohashi Onsen on the Kagawa side, but the properties of its spring are different, so visitors are encouraged to make sure they are going to the right location in advance.

Okayama Areas

around-area-map

Overshadowed by Hiroshima to the west and the Kansai region to the east, Okayama is an easy spot to miss but a nature-rich gem where the Seto Inland Sea laps at its toes and peach and grape farms complete its interior. One of Japan’s Three Great Gardens, Koraku-en in Okayama city is well worth a visit before progressing to Kurashiki, where preserved wooden Edo buildings line the picturesque canal.
