    Shimane Pref. Masudashi Hikimichouhikimi
"This is the collective name of the valley located in Hikimi-cho, Masuda City. It consists of 4 areas: Mae-Hikimi, Oku-Hikimi, Omote-Hikimi and Ura-Hikimi, each with different landscapes you can enjoy. You can see beautiful rock formations such as ""Arashiyama"", ""Goban-iwa"" and ""Tengu-iwa"" at Mae-Hikimi, the entrance to the four Himimi gorges. You can enjoy the scenery of Omote-Hikimi Gorge from the car window, and it is a scenic spot of about four kilometers, including a clear stream that is so transparent that you can see the bottom of the river. Ura-Hikimi Gorge, in contrast to Omote-Hikimi, is a valley of continuing steep cliffs and mountain streams, and the Mt. Suzugadake is at the far end of the footpath."

Shimane Areas

around-area-map

What Shimane prefecture lacks in size and population, it makes up for in scenery and ancient mythology. Izumo-taisha, in the middle of the prefecture, is said to be Japan’s oldest Shinto shrine, where stories that delve into the creation of the Japanese race have been passed down over centuries. The 180 Oki Islands, a 40-minute ferry ride north of Sakaiminato, offer an undiscovered paradise well off the beaten track.
