- Shimane Oda-shi Sanbecho Nojiro
- This concrete gravity dam was completed in 1996. The area around Lake Sahime, the reservoir for Mt. Sanbe, is equipped with a campground and wide lawn. The Sanbe river flowing through the Oda City area has flooded repeatedly throughout history, causing extensive damage and constant concern for those living in the floodplain. Sanbe dam was built to help ensure the safety of the river environment through flood control, and also to help supply water to the area. The name, Sahime, was decided through a public appeal and voting process, and comes from the local legend of Princess Sa (Sahime).

- Shimane Oda-shi Omoricho
- The Omori district, located in the mountains southwest of the urban area, is the heart of the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine World Heritage Site. Records indicate that 200,000 people lived here during its peak period, when it was run by the government during the Edo period. The townscape here preserves the nostalgic atmosphere of that heyday, with samurai residences and the remains of Omori Magistrate Office. Must-sees include the Former Kawashima Residence, which housed officials employed at the Omori Omori Magistrate Office, the House of the Kumagai Family, owned by the largest merchant family of the Omori area, and the Former Omori Magistrate Office (Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine Museum), which still has the front gate and Mon-nagaya terrace house built in 1815. In recent years, more modern cafes and shops have been increasing, while people still preserve the kominka (old houses).

Shimane Areas
What Shimane prefecture lacks in size and population, it makes up for in scenery and ancient mythology. Izumo-taisha, in the middle of the prefecture, is said to be Japan’s oldest Shinto shrine, where stories that delve into the creation of the Japanese race have been passed down over centuries. The 180 Oki Islands, a 40-minute ferry ride north of Sakaiminato, offer an undiscovered paradise well off the beaten track.
