    Tottori Kurayoshi-shi Nakanocho 2960
"This ancient Buddhist is situated halfway up Mt. Utsubuki, symbol of Kurayoshi. The temple stands 300 meters up a steep mountain road; records state it was founded in the Nara period. The zushi miniature shrine in the main temple is one of only a very few in the San'in region to have been made in the late Muromachi period. The shrine houses an eleven-faced statue of Kannon, the temple's principal object of worship. Because of its collection of some 50 variously sized ema (votive tablets) offered to the temple between the Muromachi and Edo periods, the temple is also famously known as the ""Ema Temple."" The tablets are decorated with images which depict customs and folk beliefs from the various time periods they were made in. One of the most celebrated tablets in the temple's collection depicts a white horse which, according to legend, once ran free."

It is said that Enno Oguno was opened as a gyoba (practice site) for Shugendo mountain asceticism in 706, though details are scarce. It is famous for the Nageiredo sub temple built into the crevice of a sheer cliff, and even today details of the building method are not fully revealed making it a national treasure. Aside from the main temple, the grounds are dotted with halls designated important cultural properties including those for Monjudo and Jizodo. "This Buddhist temple dedicated to Kshitigarbha is located in Sekigane Onsen, a hot spring district whose history stretches back 1,300 years. Encircled by greenery, the temple enshrines a wooden statue depicting Kshitigarbha in the half lotus position which is affectionately known to locals as the ""Seki no Jizo-san."" Founded in 756, the temple is the oldest in the area and, according to legend, the great monk Kobo Daishi used the power of Buddhism to cause a miraculous spring to well forth on its grounds. The temple's massive statue of Kshitigarbha is 358 centimeters tall and is an impressive sight. The statue's exquisite detailing, including the clothing, severe facial expression, and powerful body from chest to abdomen are all characteristic of the Kamakura period in which it was made."

This longstanding Japanese confectionary shop was established in 1880. Inside a clean-looking establishment, the shop makes and sells Utsubuki Koen Dango dumplings, one of Kurayoshi City's most well-known confections. The dumplings are made with local refined rice flour and come in three colors/flavors: white white otebo bean paste, red azuki bean paste, and matcha green tea paste. In spite of their plain and simple appearance, these traditional treats have a rich flavor and are also made without the use of any additives whatsoever. The dumplings only keep for three days; meanwhile the shop's Oshidori no Chigiri, a dried confection created out of a desire to add a longer-lasting dried confection to the shop's lineup, are also popular. Customers can enjoy the shop's confections along with a cup of tea in the in-shop cafe space.

This townscape, a symbol of Kurayoshi, follows the Tama River flowing north of Mt. Utsubuki. The elegant, 400-meter-long stretch of townscape consists of numerous white stucco buildings topped with red tile roofs. In the Edo period, the town grew and flourished around a jin'ya government administrative headquarters; today, the area has been designated the Kurayoshi City Utsubukitamagawa Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, and visitors can imagine what life was like here in ancient times. The buildings, originally used as sake breweries and soy sauce making workshops, are now used to host local specialty product shops, cafes, galleries, and a variety of other establishments. The distinctive red roof tiles are one of the San'in regions unique cultural features. The tiles are fired at over 1,200° C and are extremely resistant to cold weather damage.

"Lake Togo is a brackish lake with a circumference of around 10 kilometers, located in central Tottori Prefecture, around five minutes' walk from JR Matsuzaki Station. The lake is also known as ""Crane Lake,"" because when viewed from Mt. Hachibuse it is said to resemble a crane with its wings spread wide to take flight; Lake Togo is included as one of the ""Eight Beautiful Sights of the San'in Region."" Hot springs bubble up both from the banks of the lake and from the lake bottom, and there are two Onsen (hot springs) resorts adjacent to the lake: Togo Onsen resort and the Hawai Onsen resort. There are a number of other interesting sights in the vicinity of Lake Togo, including Hoki Ichinomiya Shrine, Kofun burial mounds, orchards growing the delicious ""20th Century Pear"" variety of pears, etc. Renting a bicycle is a good way of getting around the area. A restaurant with an old-fashioned look founded over 100 years ago in the Meiji period. It's about 10 minutes by car from Kurayoshi Station. They serve shabu-shabu (thinly sliced meat boiled with vegetables and dipped in sauce) set meals and rice bowl dishes you can dine on along a street with white walled storehouses. Their specialty is Mochi Shabu, featuring colorful mochi rice cakes resembling a twelve-layered ceremonial kimono. You dip the items in a skipjack tuna broth. The tasty and satisfyingly filling mochi is made with ingredients like carrots, shiitake mushrooms, matcha tea, and yuzu citron. Thinly cut and visually pleasing with subtle colors, it's become a hot topic in various magazines and on social media.
