    Tottori Iwami-gun Iwamicho Iwai 319
This small shop selling traditional wooden folk toys is located 38 minutes from the Tottori Interchange on the Tottori Expressway. The store's origins date back some 200 years when carpenter Ogura Sahei began using woodturning to create carved wooden goods. The wooden Chinese zodiac figurines which continue to be created by the current eighth generation Ogura family carver are one of Tottori Prefecture's most well-known craft items. The figurines are made by carving out the shape using woodturning and then adding color using distemper paints, resulting in a simple yet fresh and novel appearance. In 1964 and 2015, the shop's figurines were depicted as designs on New Year's postcard stamps, and in 1978 then-crown Mihiko bought the full set of figurines from the shop as a souveior to her daughter, Norinomiya. Renowned across the country, people come here seeking to purchase a full set to take home or give as a souvenir.
