This is the largest Chinese garden in Japan that was made as a symbol of friendship between Tottori Prefecture and Hebei Province in China. It is located near “Togo Onsen”, one of the hot springs in the Nashi-no-hana hot spring village. The beautiful and magnificent utopia that the successive Chinese emperors favored is designed in the garden and there are many scenic places such as the Sankeiken, long corridors and Nanahoshibashi bridge. "Legend says San'in's oldest garden was visited by Emperor Go-Daigo when he was exiled to the Oki Islands at the fall of the Kamakura shogunate. It's one of only two early Edo period ""crane and tortoise"" gardens left in the country, the other being at Kyoto's Saihojji Temple, also known as the moss temple. The small ornamental pond style garden has a bit of a Horai Garden feel. Designed after natural scenery, the pond has an island representing ""Shinsen Island"" as a prayer for prosperity. Designs that became formalized in the Edo period can be seen throughout the garden; it has been registered as a National Site of Scenic Beauty. Be sure to call in advance before visiting."
