    The 10th lord of the Kishu domain, Tokugawa Harutomi, constructed this Daimyo garden located in Nishihama, Wakayama Prefecture. It’s a circuit-style garden, rare in Japan, with a pond that drew in water from the ocean. You’ll find pine trees and various seasonal trees scattered about, and the garden layout across the straight Mitsuhashi Bridge that utilizes the natural scenery of Mt. Tenjin and Mt. Takozushi is enchanting. Be sure to visit the Yosuitei teahouse, the Omotesenke tea ceremony room, and the relocated Tokugawa residence “Minatogoten.” This garden has also been designated one of Japan’s Places of Scenic Beauty.
