This shop specializing in persimmon leaf sushi is just a little south of Sanada-an and the Sanada Burial Mound. It's been featured in the media on many occasions. Kudoyama-cho is a famous persimmon growing area, and persimmon leaf sushi was first created in the region of the upper Kinokawa River. They sell three kinds: mackerel, salmon, and shiitake mushroom. You need to place orders for the salmon and shiitake mushroom varieties at least a day in advance. They serve saketoba salmon jerky and stewed salmon as well, dishes that go great with rice and beer. They hold workshops four days a week. The shop opens at 8:00 in the morning closes as soon as they are sold out.

Traditional “KAKI leaf-sushi” of this shop is my favorite one. Shop is really tiny. But I am sure that this shop is popular. Sushi itself is Simple but tasty. Shimesaba (marinade cut mackerel...

This popular ramen shop has been featured in a variety of media. Taking a page from the playbooks of popular Japanese restaurants, their ramen's broth and trimmings feature an array of local ingredients. The shop's soy sauce ramen comes recommended. It features broth made of dried niboshi from iwashi sardines, mackerel, and saury blended with Wakayama-made soy sauce and topped with Umedori chashu pork. They have lots of other kinds of ramen to choose from too. These include their Tokuno ramen has a scrumptious broth that's thick as potage, and their Gekko Japanese Style Tonkotsu ramen has a light yet sophisticated flavor. They also have three kinds of tsukemen dipping ramen. You can choose the quantity of the noodles.

Kaiseki-ryori (traditional Japanese multi-course meal) restaurant located near JR Wakayama Station. Not only the food, but also the interior decoration is made with local Wakayama products, from the tables and shelves to the clay walls made of Wakayama soil, and floorboards made of cypress or cedar, all from Wakayama. Because we carefully select seasonal ingredients, many of our menu items are limited in time and quantity, so you can enjoy dishes that are unique to the season. A variety of single dishes such as salad and deep-fried dishes are also available. The original ponzu vinegar used at the restaurant is also available for sale.

"This seafood restaurant is about three minutes on foot from JR Kii-Katsuura Station. They offer a menu full of locally harvested whale and tuna dishes including their specialty maguro-don rice bowl, as well as less common yet popular fare like Korean yukhoe, spring rolls, and steamed Chinese dumplings. Their ""Recommended Set"" and ""Tuna Kaiseki Banquet Course"" showcase delectable tuna, and their ""Yokubari Teishoku Set"" is limited to 10 meals a day. If you prefer meat, they also serve dishes featuring Kumano beef. Their hot pots come recommended in winter."

"This cafe is in a refurbished lacquer artisan's town house from the Edo period. Their meals come served in the lacquerware you'd expect from a town where it was a major industry. Their dark black beef “Kuroe Curry"" is named after the area and gets its distinctive curry powder from a blend of bamboo charcoal and budo-sansho Japanese pepper from Kainan City and Kimino Town. They use wild rice. They also sell lacquerware, display it in their gallery, and hold Negoro lacquerware polishing workshops."

"This locally popular izakaya Japanese style pub in Nachikatsuura Town was founded 25 years ago by an owner who learned the trade in Tokyo. They feature succulent local seafood like fresh maguro tuna sashimi and the delicacy known as shibiwata (maguro stomach). They also serve Western fare like their own pizzas. The shop was featured on the BS-TBS TV network's program “Rui Yoshida's Pub Crawl,"" which made their Gosaku Pizza famous."

A café easily identifiable by its yellow wooden siding. The café is situated along Prefectural Route 31 traveling from Kumano Sansho-jinja Shrine towards the Jokiin Temple. The café’s most popular item is its Hamburg steak gratin. Consisting of a piping hot Hamburg steak covered with a cream sauce and cheese, it’s perfect for a relaxing lunch. The café’s extensive menu also includes 50 varieties of black tea and 15 varieties of cheesecake plus other desserts. Not to mention seasonal and limited time only teas and sweets. The crispy waffle, ice cream, and whipped cream “Waffle Set” is a signature dessert frequently ordered by locals.

This restaurant featuring local cuisine first opened in 1962. They offer fare such as oden hot pots, fried pork skewers, and mehari-zushi, a local Nanki-Shingu favorite. These rice balls wrapped in mustard leaves get their name from being so large that people's eyes go wide when they open their mouths to eat them. As they hold together well, they're known as one of Japan's favorite packed lunches. The shop always makes them fresh to order so customers can enjoy them right away at the peak of flavor. The shop moved to its current location in August 2018. The building's unique, circular shape will catch your attention.

This restaurant is located next to Kada Fishing Port, overlooking the islands of Okinoshima and Jinoshima. It serves seafood provided directly from the fishing port, prepared in ways that bring out its natural flavors. It is especially proud of its Arani (fish head stew) made exclusively with the specialty sea bream and no sugar or miso, a process that brings out the essential sweetness of the fish. This dish has been featured in several newspaper articles and television shows. Other popular options include Tako Inari (octopus served in a pouch of fried tofu), which is even served as a take-away box lunch at Kansai International Airport, longtooth grouper fish dishes served only in the winter, and pike conger dishes served only in the summer.

"This ramen shop is at Temari Square in Honmachi, Wakayama City. Their broth made with pork and chicken bones, boned pork rib called “chashu"" simmered for a long time with their secret soy sauce at low temperature, and a nicely sweet seasoning known as “kaeshi"" are all superb. These and fine al dente noodles go into their Wakayama style “Kotaro Ramen"" with its moderately rich pork bone soy sauce broth. You can also try their soy sauce ramen for a lighter flavor. They've been featured in a variety of media, including on a popular Thai television program."

A California style restaurant situated along Prefectural Route 211 running parallel to Atonoura Bay. Open from 11 in the morning to 10 at night, the character of the establishment can be quite different depending on the time of day, changing from lunchtime restaurant to café to dinner restaurant. During lunchtime, the restaurant’s specialty is its omelet rice. Customers just love the smooth texture of these omelets. During café time, the establishment’s handmade pancakes are particularly popular. The restaurant also serves seasonal pancakes during this time. During dinner, the restaurant offers Western-style dishes like pastas and gratins as well as kushikatsu fried food skewers. A Japanese café located right in front of the approach to Kumano Hayatama Taisha Shrine. The small café incorporates naturally growing trees into its exterior design, giving it a soft, subdued atmosphere. The café’s signature meal is its Iwashimizu pork loin shabushabu set meal. Rose on spring water deep in the mountains, Iwashimizu pork loin is said to have twice the amount of umami flavor-producing substances as conventional pork. The café also offers popular local dishes like meharisushi rice balls wrapped in pickled mustard greens and aosa soba noodles made with sea lettuce nori and Wakayama plums. For coffee, the café uses aromatic and sweet-smelling top class UCC premium special beans. In addition, the café offers an abundant variety of healthy items like tofu cake and bitter melon juice.

This bakery on the Oishi-kogen Highland is only open on Saturdays and Sundays. Housed in a log cabin, there's a great view of the surrounding woodland from the terrace seating. It's a lovely way to enjoy the charms of nature with birdsong and the cool breeze passing through the valley. All of their products are additive-free. Their mountain shaped bread and their bacon knot filled with cream cheese and mustard get good reviews. They also serve juice and light fare like pizza and spaghetti, as well as items only available for a limited time.
