    Wakayama Hidaka-gun Minabecho Kitado 222
"This shop, located a short distance north of JR Minabe Station, has been making and selling various foods using Japanese plums exclusively from Wakayama since 1855. Particularly recommended is the shop's signature Fujiume, which is also a registered trademark of the shop. The product's name literally means ""Forbidden Plums,"" and is derived from the fact that when it was presented to a lord as a present, he praised it and ordered more to be made yet also forbade the commoners from making it for themselves. Producing this exquisite food is labor-intensive: Japanese plums are pickled in salt and further marinated in sugar, then wrapped in shiso leaves and pickled again for an additional three months. The shop can export its goods internationally for people living overseas. Some of the other products the shop sells include umeboshi pickled plums as well as plum extract and garlic marinated with plum paste and dried bonito flakes."
