Generally opened to the public around May 3 each year, the earliest on the main island of Honshu, the beach is popular for its equatorial beach resort-like atmosphere. In addition, Shirasuna, a large, pool-like mixed sex open-air bath (bathing suit required) is open year-round and can be used as a foot bath in winter.

    This beach is just outside of Isonoura Station on the Nankai Electric Railway Kada Line. Its proximity to Osaka and the ability to surf year-round makes it popular with surfers of all levels. During the summer season it's split into sea bathing and surfing areas. Since the sea is shallow and there's no danger of colliding with surfers, kids can play in the water worry-free.     This beach is just a 10-minute walk after disembarking from the Tanouraguchi bus stop. On the beach, are boat-shaped play structures and barbecue pits, making a safe and enjoyable area for family leisure activities. The toilets and showers are barrier-free allowing for wheelchair access. Designated as one of the Top 100 Most Comfortable Beaches by the Ministry of the Environment in 2006. It is open everyday during the two months of July 1 through August 31.

    This beach is about a 10-minute walk from the JR Kii Tanabe Station. The only swimmable beach in Tanabe City, Wakayama, it is also called Ogiga Hama due to its fan-like shape. The beach house is equipped with toilets, changing rooms, showers, and free storage lockers so families can safely enjoy their time here. Many summer events are hosted during the swimming season, including the rental of stability balanced stand-up paddleboards, which can be rented any day during the operational period of July 1 through August 31.

    Located approximately five minutes by bus from JR Kii-Katsuura Station, this beach adjacent to JR Nachi Station is open from around mid- July every year and is crowded with many beachgoers. The sandy beach continues for approximately 800 meters, and the major draw is being able to see the clear blue Pacific Ocean, just as the name Blue Beach suggests. It was chosen by the Ministry of the Environment as one of Japan’s top 100 beaches, a special evaluation given to particularly excellent beaches. You can also enjoy beach volleyball competitions and marine sports.
  • Susami Beach

    Located approximately five minutes by car from the Susami Interchange, this beach is along National Route 42. The beach was reopened in 2005 after remodeling, and its waves are gentle because it is inside a bay. The length of the beach is about 250 meters, and the spot is popular with families, since those with children can enjoy themselves with peace of mind. The area is well maintained, and use of the parking lot, barrier-free bathrooms, showers and changing rooms is free. In addition, across the bay is Inazumi Island, which has been selected as one of the 100 best sunset areas of Wakayama Prefecture. With Susami Onsen nearby you can stop by both places during a single trip.

    This beach is located along National Route 42 in Kujinokawa, Kushimoto Town, Higashimuro County Wakayama Prefecture. It is notable for the high clarity of its beautiful waters as well as its views of the Hashiguiiwa Rocks, a national place of scenic beauty and natural monument, as well as Kii Oshima Island, Kushimoto Ohashi Bridge, and beyond. In addition to a swimming, visitors can also try sea kayaking and standup paddle-boarding from April to October.

The beautiful sandy beach is opened at the end of June each year. Visitors can also enjoy cuisine made with local ingredients, hot springs, and other amenities at the nearby Arafune Resort.

    A five-minute walk from the Konoshiro bus stop and 20 minutes from JR Shimosato Station. This beach is located next to the Tamanoura Enchi park beyond a residential area and before the Kisei Main Line railway crossing. There is a nearby parking area with space for 30 vehicles, and the beach is replete with changing rooms, showers, and toilets. The beach is open for swimming in most years for around one month from mid-July to mid-August. The beach's waters are shallow, making this a great destination for families with small children. Although barbecuing is prohibited on the beach, conversely this helps to make it quieter and more relaxing.

    This swimming beach is located on an uninhabited island in the Kii Channel. The island can be reached via a ferry which leaves from Hatsushima Fishing Port. Also, rare for a beach, barbecuing and camping are allowed on the shore. Equipment rentals are available, meaning you don't even have to bring anything yourself. You can also rent fishing gear and the beach is a place where you can experience and out-of-the-ordinary time surrounded by natural beauty.
