    This is a Kakinoha-zushi specialty shop close to the copper torii gate of Kimpusen-ji Temple, a five-minute walk from the ropeway’s Yoshinoyama Station. Kakinoha-zushi is said to be delicious the day after thanks to the mellow flavor and aroma of persimmon leaves, and makes for a popular souvenir.

    This is a souvenir shop near the Yoshino Station in Yoshino Town, Mt. Yoshino. The shop's specialty is homemade sweet bean jelly that is made with Yoshino kuzu (arrowroot) and cherry blossom petals called Yama-zakura sweet bean jelly. The shop also offers Yoshino kuzu arrowroot, kuzu starch gruel, cherry blossom petal pickles and cherry blossom and Japanese mugwort flavored soft serve ice cream.

    This Japanese sweets shop in Shimo-senbon, Yoshinoyama, Yoshino Town makes sweets by hand the traditional way. One of the Japanese sweets on offer is its two-layer Sakura Yokan made with cherry blossom flowers and matcha green tea. In the spring, people line up to buy the shop's kusa mochi, its flagship product. These popular mugwort rice cakes were once presented as an offering to Emperor Showa.

    妻が「ひょうたろう」に並んで柿の葉寿司を買っている間にこちらの店で草餅と桜餅を買いました。店の中では職人さんが草餅をどんどん作っているのが見えます。この店は桜の時期でも平日であれば並ぶほどではなかったので助かりました。パックになった桜餅と草餅を買い求め、常温で保存して翌日に家で食べましたが、硬くなってませんでした。草餅はよもぎの香りもあり、道明寺の桜餅も美味しかったです。

    This restaurant situated on a mountain road on Mt. Yoshino serves delicious river fish. The restaurant's wild river fish is sprinkled with salt or covered with breading and skewered whole before cooking; takeout is also available. The establishment's numerous varieties of bo sushi, handmade croquettes, and deep-fried deer sirloin kushikatsu skewers are also highly popular. Notably, the restaurant's bo sushi is served as-is rather than being wrapped in a persimmon leaf as is common.

    買い食いしながら吉野の山を歩き、勝手神社へ行った後に立ち寄りました。店先で売っているアマゴの空揚げをいただきましたが、香ばしくてカリカリで頭からおいしくいただけました。あまりに美味しかったので店内で売られていた焼き穴子の姿ずしも買い求めましたが、これも美味しかったです。店内でも食事が出来るようでしたが、バスツアーでの滞在3時間ではゆっくりする時間が無かったのが残念です。

The shop is famous for its Yoshino Shui, a special kuzu starch gruel made exclusively with Yoshino kuzu starch produced using the ""kanzarashi"" method, which involves soaking it in icy-cold water. Sold in dry blocks, when covered with boiling water and gently stirred, it dissolves into a kuzu starch gruel with a very refined sweetness, and a small confection symbolizing a cherry blossom floats to the top. The shop is also filled with other sweets made with Yoshino kuzu and wasanbon fine-grained Japanese sugar, such as higashi dried candies, kuzukiri kuzu starch noodles, and kuzuame kuzu starch candies."

You can also enjoy regional and more conventional Japanese cuisine crafted using seasonal ingredients.

    柿の葉寿司以外のものを食べようと思い、茶がゆのコース料理である吉野川をランチにオーダーしました。内容は、焼鮎すし、葛切り、小鉢、茶がゆ、香の物です。目の前に来てから冷静に見てみると、メインが焼鮎すしと茶がゆですので、ごはんばかりでした。ちょっと失敗したかなと思いましたが、食べ終わった後の感想はまずまず満足でした。次回訪問時は、お寿司は柿の葉寿司で、アユは塩焼きにしましょうか。

    念願だった吉野の桜をたっぷりと楽しんで、近鉄の吉野の前に戻ってきました。駅前には、おみやげ屋さんなどが並んでいて、その一番奥側、駅から離れた場所にあったのが、こちらのお店「さくら堂」さんでした。 しばらく歩き続けて山を下りたので、ちょうどソフトクリームでも食べたい気分でした。こちらのお店の「マロンソフト」をいただきました。栗が香おるおいしいソフトクリームで、一息つきました。

    友人から美味しいと聞いていたので、土曜日の午前９時10分に訪れましたが、ナント！予約数のみの販売で本日分は売り切れとの事！ 朝早くなら買えるかも…ではなく、件名の通り予約をお勧めします。ちなみに、「やき餅」の写真は店員さんに撮影を拒否されたので、ご自身の目でお確かめください。 また、駐車場も店のガレージで１台分程度なのでご注意下さい。

    吉野のメインストリートにある葛菓子のお店。店構えは立派で、吉野ではメジャーなお店の方でしょう。 コーヒー味の葛湯というのがあって、それをお土産にしてみました。 ただ、コーヒー味の方はほどほど。ベースになっている甘い葛湯の味わいがしっかりしています。

With a reputation almost as stellar as that of Kyoto, Nara is a must-visit for those searching for the remains of "traditional Japan." The largely green Nara city holds the majority of the prefecture’s treasures, such as the iconic Todai-ji Temple, in which a 15-meter tall Great Buddha sits, and Nara Park, where deer flock to befriend passersby. While mountains are by no means hard to come by in this area, for hiking with a reward, head to the Kii Mountains’ Yoshino district in spring, when the hillsides put on an impressive display of white and pink cherry blossoms.
