    Hyogo Sayo-gun Sayocho Hirafuku
The Hirafuku district, located in the center of the basin of the Sayo River flowing west of the area known as Harima (southwest Hyogo Prefecture), once flourished as a post station town on the Inaba Kaido highway. The townscape that visitors can see now took form between the Keicho and the Genna eras (1596-1623), and even today many of the buildings and other features built during this time period still stand along a 1.2-kilometer-long stretch of the old highway extending north and south. Consisting of groups of dozo storehouses and white stucco homes with lattice windows situated along the stone wall of the Sayo River, the district is one of Sayo Town's top tourist destinations. The area is dotted with charming sites distinctive of Hirafuku's history and heritage, including the location of a duel involving famous swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, and a soy sauce brewery in operation since the Edo period, and in 2011 it was designated a Historic Scenery District.

Hyogo prefecture stretches from the north coast to the south coast on the western end of the popular Kansai region, encompassing verdant mountains, urban beaches, and fantastic historical sights. The prefecture’s main attractions lie along the south coast at Kobe, the prefectural capital, a pretty harbor city best known for its production of the renowned Kobe beef, and Himeji, the home of Himeji Castle, one of the country’s most beautifully preserved feudal castles, perched magically atop a hill.
