A day trip hot spring bath facility located in Kobe’s Kita Ward in the Arima Hot Spring area, famous as being a favorite relaxation destination for the Imperial Regent Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The spacious facility offers 26 different types of baths using waters from the “Gold Spring” and “Silver Spring” hot spring sources as well as a manmade carbonated spring. There is also a stone sauna, restaurant, and rest area in this fully outfitted hot spring resort. The facility’s various areas created with connections to Toyotomi Hideyoshi are also a worth seeing, such as the “Golden Steam Bath,” modeled after Hideyoshi’s golden tea room; the “Stone Bath of the Regent,” and the “Supreme Ruler Bath.” Visitors can also walk the “Kanbee Kodo” in the front garden and learn about the history of the area during their stroll.

This is our first time experiencing an onsen in Japan. Initially we thought it’s a traditional and natural hot spring but were surprised that it’s actually a modern complex with man made outdoor dip...

A municipal day trip bathing facility located in the Arima Hot Spring area, a famous hot spring site favored by the Imperial Regent Toyotomi Hideyoshi. This renowned public bathhouse, long operated here, was remodeled and reopened in 2002. The facility’s reddish brown waters come from the “Gold Spring” source. The bathhouse has men’s and women’s indoor baths as well as a rest lobby. The outdoor footbath and spring water station are free to use, and many like to stop here for a quick break during a walk. The closest station is Arima Onsen Station.

I think it’s a good starting point for first timers. It was my first time and I usually leave my backpack in a coin locker at the station but things were a bit hectic for me in the morning so I ended...

The name (meaning “the Best Hot Spring”) of this historic hot spring bath facility is derived from the Yakusen, a book written by mid-Edo period doctor Kagawa Shutoku, who wrote that it was the best hot spring bath in the world. The Yumepa bath ticket allows purchasers to visit bathe as much as they like at seven different hot spring facilities, including Ichinoyu, whose waters have are said to bring good fortune. The facility is famous for its rock cavern bath, which was naturally carved out of the bare mountain and whose water quality is said to be the best in the country. The magnificent building, reminiscent of a Momoyama-style kabuki theater, has become a symbol of the Kinosaki Onsen area.

This is the onsen with the outdoor cave pool. It’s pretty cool to soak in a mock cave but I actually preferred the indoor pool and the jets.... plus the indoor pool is a degree or so hotter. Both...

This hot-spring bathhouse is right next to Kinosaki onsen Station. The bathhouse first opened in 2000 and you can use the Yumepa hot-spring pass to bath in any of the seven soto-yu public hot spring bathhouses including this Fureai-no-Yu bath house for an entire day. This three-story modern Japanese-style building fits in with the rest of the hot-spring village and they have a large indoor bath on the second floor as well as an open-air bath on the third floor. From the open-air bath you can gaze over the Maruyama river as it changes through the seasons.

This large and modern onsen next to the train station charges more (800 yen) than the other onsens in Kinosaki, and with justification. It has baths at different temperatures, sauna and plunge pool...

This is a city-managed day trip bathing facility in the Arima Onsen area, famous as a place loved by chancellor Toyotomi Hideyoshi. It is located in a quiet spot a little removed from the town and surrounded by many temples and shrines. The building is rich with Japanese-style onsen atmosphere, and inside one can enjoy Arima’s famous carbonated radium hot spring Ginsen. The nearest station is Arima Onsen Station. At the Tansan Sengen Koen park just a five-minute walk away, there is a place where one can drink carbonated spring water.

There was just one pool, a sauna and a pressure shower. The pool had silver coloured water. It was quite nice and the water was bubbling up at one end of the pool. There were far fewer people in this...

A hot spring hotel located in Maenosho, Yumesaki-cho, Himeji City. Facilities include the indoor Mantenboshi and outdoor Tenshu-no-Yu bathing areas, a medicinal bath, lie down bath, jet bath, micro bubble bath, carbonated bath, jacuzzi, and other baths, plus a sauna. Located on a hill, customers can also enjoy the bathhouse' sweeping view of the surrounding mountains. The hotel's bathhouse is also open to non-guests. The hotel's casual restaurant serves reasonably priced lunches, while its more formal restaurant offers a kaiseki course cuisine lunch (advance reservation required).

There are quite a few onsen hotels in the area but I found Yumenoi a very nice hotel in the area. It is located up on the low hill over looking some beautiful farm lands. There are ample parking in...

A hot spring bathhouse located a 20-minute drive from the Tannan Sasayamaguchi interchange on the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway. The bathhouse' hot spring wells up from 1,300 meters below ground in a stratum dating back 100 million years; its waters have a superb warming effect on the body. The alkaline simple mildly radioactive hot spring is used to fill the bathhouse' tubs, such as a rock bath made from Tamba stone, and a bathing area made with Tamba ware porcelain, including the indoor bath, outdoor bath, and even the floor. Each bathing area is separated into a large indoor bath area, source spring bath area, and large outdoor bath area.

This day-use hot spring facility is approximately a five-minute drive from the Kobe-Awaji-Naruto Expressway's Awaji Interchange just across the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. Its simple thermal radon spring is thought to be effective for helping nerve pain, joint pain, bruises, sprains, chronic skin diseases, sensitivity to cold, and more. Their Japanese-style outdoor bath lets you soak while taking in a view of Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. Men and women can use this bath on a periodic alternating basis. They have lots of amenities too, including shampoo, rinse, makeup remover, face lotion, and hair dryers.
