This is an aqua park in Suma Kaihin Park about five minutes on foot from JR Sumakaihinkoen Station. The aqua park opened in 1957. It is loved by the citizens of Kobe who have given it the nickname of “Smasui”, and the aqua park celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2017. Located in an area as one enters the park, straight away one will come across such animals as sharks and ray leisurely swimming in large tanks. Besides that, there are also plenty of programs for children up to adults which enable you to experience sea creatures up close such as a commentary and a demonstration of feeding the sea otters and a live show where you can have contact with true seals and bottlenose dolphins.

This proved to be an excellent place to visit with my granddaughter, aged 3. It’s an old Aquarium (1957) & some of the enclosures – especially those of some turtles – are too small to be acceptable...

"This aquarium is in Seto, Toyooka City. At 12 meters, its main tank is the deepest in the country. They also have a play area for the seals and sea lions, an area that lets you see dolphins up close, and an amphitheater for shows. Programs let you feed the fish at their Fish Dance attraction, interact with dolphins, get close to the animals with a ""Backyard Tour,"" and make and eat tempura with horse mackerel you catch yourself. This aquarium is in Tegarayama Central Park in Nishinobusue, Himeji City. Its main building has marine life including sea turtles, penguins, and schools of pilchard, and its annex is home to an African spurred tortoise and freshwater fish. A stream on the roof of the main building lets kids interact with the fish, and a biotope reproduces a typical pond from the Harima region. They regularly offer staff commentary and hold sessions where you can feed the marine life too.

Worth a visit if you're in Tegara, I suppose, but otherwise there is a better aquarium in Osaka. It's a relatively small and dull aquarium meant to entertain young kids. The fish you can see aren't...

    東条湖の湖畔に無料の水族館がありました。コイやメダカ、カメ、ナマズなどの魚たちが展示してあります。亀に触ってちびっこたちは喜んでいました。家族でおでかけにお勧めです。

Hyogo Main Areas

around-area-map

Hyogo prefecture stretches from the north coast to the south coast on the western end of the popular Kansai region, encompassing verdant mountains, urban beaches, and fantastic historical sights. The prefecture’s main attractions lie along the south coast at Kobe, the prefectural capital, a pretty harbor city best known for its production of the renowned Kobe beef, and Himeji, the home of Himeji Castle, one of the country’s most beautifully preserved feudal castles, perched magically atop a hill.
