Known affectionately as “Sumiyossan,” the Sumiyoshi Taisha (Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine) is a Shinto Shrine located in the Sumiyoshi Ward of Osaka City, in Osaka Prefecture. It is the head shrine of all the Sumiyoshi shrines in Japan, of which there are around 2,300 in total. The Sumiyoshi Taisha is one of the most popular shrines in the Kinki region for the Hatsumode (the first visit to a shrine in the New Year), and it is thronged with worshippers every January. The founding of the Sumiyoshi Taisha is recorded in the Nihon Shoki (“Chronicles of Japan”), which notes that the Empress Jingu ordered the construction of the shrine to worship Sumiyoshi no Ohkami. Sumiyoshi no Ohkami (which is actually three Shinto deities in one) is renowned as the god of the sea and the god of exorcism. The four halls that make up the Hon-den (main hall) of the Sumiyoshi Taisha are built in the architectural style known as Sumiyoshi-zukuri; all four have been designated as National Treasures.

We visited this famous shrine by taking a local train from Osaka. The entrance to the shrine features a steeply curved bridge that spans a rushing creek. Inside there are interesting buildings to...

This museum was founded in 1950 and is located within “Nagai Park” in Higashi Sumiyoshi Ward, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture. The museum is based on the theme of humans surrounding natural history, and they carry out such activities as data collection, exhibitions, and educational activities. The permanent exhibition rooms are based on the four themes, “The Natural World Around Us”, “History of Earth and Life”, “Evolution of Life” and “The Lives of Living Things”. You can enjoy learning about nature in the local area of Osaka, the ecology, and evolution of living things and the environment while taking turns at games and videos. Special exhibitions are held several times a year at the museum. The in-house and outdoor events mainly held on weekends are also popular.

I happened to have some free time and decided to check it out. Though small, it is packed to the brim with fossils and such.

This is the head temple of the Nembutsu faith Yuzu Nembutsu sect that spread in the late Heian period, located a five-minute walk to the south of Hirano Station. The temple originated when the Ryonin Priest received an order from Prince Shotoku and built a Nemoto Dojo-seminary. The Sanmon (Temple gate) built in the early Edo period in front of the temple was designated as Osaka City's Tangible Cultural Property in 2006. The Hondo (Main Hall), reconstructed in 1938 which you can see as you pass through the gate, is made of zelkova wood with copper roofing. This is also the largest wooden building in Osaka Prefecture. In addition, this building was registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of the country in 2003.

"Senkoji Temple is about a five-minute walk from the south exit of JR Hirano Station. It is considered one of the 13sacred Buddhist sites of Osaka and one of the 88 sacred sites of the former province of Settsu. Its beginnings date back about 1400 years, when Prince Shotoku Taishi built a small temple and installed a statue of YakushiNyorai (the bodhisattva of healing). The main buildings, dedicated to YakushiNyorai, are in the center of the temple grounds. This temple is also famous for its Jigokudo, a hall where visitors can supposedly experience hell. At the entrance, they check to see to what degree they merit paradise or hell, and see a fearsome statue of Enma- Daio, the kind of hell. The Machigurumi (""Entire Town"") Museum and the Dagashi-ya San (""Cheap Candy Store"") Museum are also on the temple grounds."

A small shrine where you can have a good picture of both hell and heaven with an interesting and interactive area for people to play and understand the story. I like the place where it connected to...

This temple is a four-minute walk from Minamitanabe Station. It is one of the 36 Fudo Temples in the Kinki Region and is affectionately called Tanabe-no-ofudo-san. Built in 1178, it is said to have originated when Taira no Shigemori placed Minamoto Yoshitomo's sacred personal Buddhist statue at the site. As you walk through the temple gate, the Dainichi Buddha of Kongokai (diamond world of buddha) is enshrined in the three-storied pagoda. On the right, a large 800-year-old camphor tree is standing, creating a calm scenery. In 1978, an original piece of the national treasure, Ao (Blue) Fudo of Shourenin Temple in Kyoto was found here and listed as an Important Cultural Property.

    地下鉄の田辺駅から徒歩5分程です。おおさか十三仏霊場第1番札所です。住宅街にある綺麗なお寺さんで、小さくもなく大きくもなくで参拝しやすかったです。

"This shop makes and sells the food ""sample"" models often used by Japanese restaurants to show what they are serving. The shop holds food model-making activities three times a day; priority is given to those who make an advance reservation. The activities include a tour of the shop's workshop and participants can choose to make takoyaki octopus dumplings, ramen, or a dessert model. Note that participants may not be able to watch staff making models on Sundays and holidays."

    ここも食品サンプル体験ができますね。情報収集でみているけど、ちょっとマンネリですね。好きなひとは好きなんでしょうね。

    Osaka Osakashi Hirano-ku Hiranomiyamachi 2-1-67
Kumata-jinja Shrine was built in 862, giving it a long and storied history. The main shrine building is designated a National Important Cultural Property, and is the oldest wooden building in Osaka City. The shrine grounds host Japan's only Renga (linked poem) space, where a Renga meeting is held every month. They also run an Internet Renga on the shrine's web page. The Hirano Danjiri Matsuri, one of Osaka's grandest festivals, is a must-see. The festival is held for four days from July 11th to the 14th every year. They say more than 300,000 spectators come every year. Held along the Hirano River east of JR Hirano Station, the festival days see nine large Danjiri floats carried to the shrines main Daimon Gate in a magnificent spectacle.

    Osaka Osakashi Sumiyoshi-ku Bandai 3
This pond is approx. a three-minute walk from the Hankai Uemachi Line's Tezukayama Sanchome Station. In the past, it was said that a strange monster inhabited the pond, with the legend that Prince Shotoku sent monks to chant mandala sutras in order to appease it. Because of this, the pond was called Mandala Pond, but eventually became mispronounced to its current name. There is a park nearby with playground equipment for children, and cherry blossom trees are planted along the promenade. Bustling with cherry blossom viewers in the spring, you can see migratory birds resting their wings at the pond in the winter.

While Osaka prefecture is the country's second smallest prefecture, its capital, Osaka City, is the country’s third-largest and arguably one of the most popular in the Kansai region thanks to its vibrant nightlife, the Osaka people’s openness, and its much-loved cuisine, which has earned it the nickname "the nation’s kitchen."
