A viewing tower located in Naniwa Ward, Osaka City and a famous Osaka landmark. Originally erected in 1912 and modeled after the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the current 108 meter tower is actually the second Tsutenkaku. The fourth and fifth floors are a viewing floor overlooking Osaka. There are figures of the Seven Gods of Fortune on the fifth floor as well as a statue of Billiken which is said to bring good luck when the soles of its feet are rubbed. The tower is filled with other interesting things to see and do, including the Kinnikuman Museum; a café produced by Mother Farm; and showroom shops by Morinaga, Glico, and Nisshin.

Tsutenkaku was an old district but it was lively with hostels around the area. There were a few old shops, restaurants and cafes. There was also a big Donki Shop nearby. Worth the visit.

This historic shrine in Naniwa is a six-minute walk from Namba Station or a seven-minute walk from Daikokuchou Station. It was known as an old shrine even during the era of Emperor Go-Sanjou (who reigned 1068-1072). Susanoo-no-Mikoto and his wife Kushinadahime are enshrined here, protecting people from evil, helping businesses prosper, and aiding in happy marriages. Three large festivals happen every spring, summer and fall. The summer festival happens every 13th and 14th of July with various events being performed. Also, every third Sunday of January a Shinto rope pulling ceremony is held, which was designated as Osaka's first Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 2001. There are also a variety of other shrines on the premises.

This beautiful shrine just located near the Namba. Easy access to public transport. It was worthl to visit since this area is completely contrasting from every other shrine.

    Osaka Osakashi Naniwa-ku Ebisuhigashi
Located on the western side of the site where the fifth National Industrial Exhibition was held in 1903, the approximately 92 thousand square meter neighborhood of Shinsekai was created to be “new highlight” of Osaka. Just to the north of the center of the area, visitors can find the Tsutenkaku Tower. Janjan Yokocho Alley, located in the southeast of Shinsekai, is lined with shops selling Osaka specialties like kushikatsu (fried pork and onions on skewers) and doteyaki (beef sinew in miso and mirin). The retro atmosphere, reminiscent of the Showa period, makes Shinsekai an extremely popular tourist attraction.

The Imamiya Ebisu-jinja Shrine is a shrine in the Naniwa Ward of Osaka City that is associated with “Ebessan” (Ebisu), the god of commerce. Besides Amaterasu-omikami and Kotoshironushi-no-kami, three other Shinto deities are venerated at the Shrine. The worship of Ebisu is linked with that of Kotoshironushi-no-kami. According to tradition, when Prince Shotoku built the Shitenno-ji Temple, he also had the Imamiya Ebisu-jinja Shrine built to protect the Temple from evil spirits coming from the west. The Shrine is particularly famous for the Toka Ebisu Festival, which is held on January 9th to 11th each year, and which attracts around a million worshippers.

Perhaps this review is a bit skewed as I stumbled across the Ebisu Festival and this shrine and it was it going off. Crazy, exciting, fun and loud. Just like those down to earth Osakans, its all...

    Osaka Osakashi Naniwa-ku Nippombashi 3
Sprawling from 3 to 5-chome in Nipponbashi, Naniwa Ward, Osaka City, Denden Town is one of Japan’s most famous “Electric Towns.” After the end of World War II, a succession of electronics stores opened up shop here, turning the area into a center for electronics and nerd culture. Today, many of the shops sell dojinshi (self-published zines), cosplay (costume) items, and action figures, and a portion of the neighborhood has affectionately come to be called the “Otaku (Nerd) Road.” As more and more shops start offering duty free shopping, the number of international tourists coming here has also been increasing.

Kushikatsu Daruma head office is a very famous specialty kushikatsu (a grilled skewer) restaurant even for Shinsekai, a famous sightseeing place in Osaka. This well-established restaurant opened in 1929. It is also well-known as the birthplace of kushikatsu and often featured on TV and in magazines. It achieves a perfect balance by extracting the taste of ingredients with an uncompromising quality of batter, sauce and oil. The famous Original Kushikatsu, which is succulent beef in freshly fried crispy batter covered with sauce, has an irresistible taste. There are only 12 seats at the counter, so waiting in the queue is unavoidable.

Our guide said he could eat 50 skewers. My question:WHY? In a city known for great beef, pork, seafood and vegetables, at this restaurant you get slivers of unremarkable filling in breaded skewers...

Exiting the underground Nanba Station from exit 26-B, you will see a building resembling an octagonal UFO across the Hanshin Expressway. The Minato-machi River Place is a facility complex built around the Live House, Namba Hatch. Various live events including rock and hip-hop are held in this building. There are also three plazas set up outside for use as outdoor event zones. Mini live events, exhibitions and other events, such as flea markets are also held here. The Dotonbori river flows past the complex, and with its beautiful nighttime views, is a popular date spot.

Tsurukameya is a kushikatsu (Japanese-style deep-fried kebabs) and doteyaki (beef tendons stewed in miso and mirin) restaurant that keeps alive the flavors of Showa-period Osaka. Tsurukameya is open 24 hours, so you can enjoy reasonably-priced kushikatsu at any time of day. Founded in 1910 this delicatessen is managed by a long-standing meat dealer and has a menu focused on options like kushikatsu (skewers of fried food) and croquettes. Appearing in the media plenty of times, they are well known for items like their captivating Tsutenkaku croquettes and Doraku beef-katsu sandwich. This is a specialist “Kushi Age” (deep-fried skewered meat and vegetables) restaurant almost directly below Osaka Tsutenkaku Tower. The big billboard of “Kushikatsu daruma” is the restaurant’s landmark. This is a long-established Kushi Age restaurant which has continued for four generations since it was established in 1929, and it is a popular restaurant which continues to have queues form outside as it has a flavor liked by the average person in Osaka. In addition to the counter seats in the store, there are also 16 table seats so you can enjoy coming in a group or coming with the family. The specially made sauce, fine coating and exquisite original oil is well balanced, and the flavors extracted from the raw ingredients are surprisingly light. The crunchy interior has a sticky food texture—even those people who do not like deep fried food will find them delicious to eat.
