A gorge along the upper stream of the Akuta River flowing through Takatsuki City, it was designated as one of Osaka Prefecture's Places of Scenic Beauty in 1938. Stretching for approx. four kilometers, there are coupled rocks, eight tatami mat-sized stone outcroppings, cliffs and waterfalls, and it is said to be the most picturesque place in the Hokusetsu region. It was also chosen as one of the Kansai region's top 100 scenic spots, and one of Osaka's top 100 green landscapes. Known as a famous spot for viewing cherry blossoms and the changing autumn leaves, the Settsukyo Gorge Cherry Blossom Festival is held every year in early April in Settsukyo Gorge Cherry Blossom Park, where 3,000 cherry blossom trees are planted. In addition, with a hiking course that allows you to enjoy the natural landscape throughout the four seasons, it is a gathering spot for those who like the outdoors.

While Osaka prefecture is the country's second smallest prefecture, its capital, Osaka City, is the country’s third-largest and arguably one of the most popular in the Kansai region thanks to its vibrant nightlife, the Osaka people’s openness, and its much-loved cuisine, which has earned it the nickname "the nation’s kitchen."
