    Osaka Osakashi Chuou-ku Shinsaibashisuji 1-5-17
The Shinsaibashi branch of the long-established Kushikatsu Daruma chain opens at 11:00 a.m. and has plenty of tables, so it attracts lots of family groups at lunchtime. The main focus of the menu is, as the restaurant’s name suggests, kushikatsu (Japanese-style deep-fried kebabs), but there is also a wide range of reasonably-priced set meals, including doteyaki (beef tendons stewed in miso and mirin) etc. Adults accompanying children who order less than a specified amount will be required to pay an additional cover charge, so it works out cheaper to order plenty of kushikatsu.

Good kushikatsu. A bit greasy. The recommended 9 piece set is more than enough for one person. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Sennichimae Hatsuse is a long-established okonomiyaki restaurant which began in 1945. As it used to be operated as a ryokan (Japanese style accommodation), all seating is in relaxing individual rooms. Double sauce with a secret mixture combining four types of flour and Japanese stock covered with two types of sauce is the key to the taste. Mix, a main dish with pork, squid and prawn as well as Butatama (a pork topping) are popular. Negiyaki Yamamoto is a restaurant serving negiyaki (Okonomiyaki savory pancake with green onions), one of Osaka’s lesser-known traditional fried foods, and teppanyaki. As Negiyaki Yamamoto is located inside the concourse of Shin-Osaka Shinkansen (Bullet Train) Station, it is the perfect place to stop for a bite to eat while traveling. For the benefit of customers who may be in a rush, some of the fried foods are pre-cooked, and then finished off just before serving. The Suji-Negi, which includes plenty of spring onions with slow-boiled beef tendons and konjac, is especially popular.

This old-fashioned okonomiyaki restaurant, located in an alley behind “Tenjinbashi-suji Shopping Street”, is about two minutes on foot from Temma Station. The interior has an atmosphere of the Showa period, and a nostalgic, at home feel. The iron plate for cooking is at the table, so visitors cook their own okonomiyaki. A well-known dish on the menu is “Chigusa Yaki”, a deluxe type of okonomiyaki using a thick piece of pork meat and cooked by the restaurant staff for you. The sauce of mustard and ketchup mixed together goes perfectly with the pork.

This gem is in one of the smaller alley from the main shopping street. The shop has a very local vibe and you cook the okonomiyaki on the pan in front of you (we ordered the oysters one which is only...

The second floor can cater to 50 guests and is available to be reserved for groups over 40 people.
