    A Shingon Sennyu-ji Buddhist temple in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City that was erected at the request of Emperor Go-Kogon in the Nanboku-cho period. Due to its deep connection to the imperial household, it has been given the high status as a special head temple despite also being a sub temple located within the Sennyu-ji Temple. The Colored Paper Windows in the Renge-no-Ma are actually glass windows placed within four paper sliding doors; many visitors enjoy the Japanese atmosphere of the garden as viewed through these windows. Other windows in the building such as the Window of Bewilderment and the Window of Enlightenment carry Buddhist themes. Each year on the second Monday of January (Coming of Age Day, a running figure of Mahakala normally kept in the kitchen is moved to the main temple hall for the Senzan Shichifukujin-meguri (Seven Gods of Fortune Pilgrimage).

    This was built by Kobo Daishi in the Heian period after receiving a divine message from the Kumano Gongen deity, a god of the three Kumano shrines. The temple is said to have started when Kobo Daishi carved an image of the Eleven-faced Kannon Bosatsu (Avalokitesvara) and stored a 5.5-centimeter image he had received from Kumano Gongen in the larger statue’s body to make this the principal object of worship at the temple. It’s temple number 15 of the Saigoku Kannon pilgrimage (33 temples in the Kinki area containing a statue of Kannon) and is said to help against headaches and senility.

    Located in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City, this is the head temple of the Shingon Sennyu-ji sect of Buddhism. The temple’s principle object of worship are figures of Gautama Buddha, Amitabha, and Maitreya. The temple is said to have been founded in the Heian period (794–1185) but the real foundations were laid in the Kamakura period (1185–1333) by the priest Gachirin Daishi (Shungyo). The tombs of successive generations of emperors such as Emperor Go-Horikawa and Emperor Shijo can be found on the grounds. Long affiliated with the imperial family, the temple is also nicknamed “Mitera” (the August Temple). Famous for being part of the Seven Gods of Fortune Pilgrimage conduct each year on Coming of Age Day, it is said one can bring home luck itself by acquiring a bamboo branch decorated with tags showing it was carried to each of the temples in the pilgrimage.

    Sokujo-in Temple is a Shingon temple located in Sennyuji-Yamauchi-cho in Kyoto's Higashiyama Ward, dedicated to the Buddha Amida Nyorai, and it possesses a number of artworks that have been designated National Important Cultural Properties. It is famous as the temple of the family of the 13th century samurai Nasu no Yoichi, and the local people affectionately call it Nasu no Yoichi-san.

    泉涌寺に数多くある塔頭の一つ。歴史は古いが、現在の場所に再興されたのは明治以降のことらしい。那須与一の墓がある。境内には紅葉が何本かあり、非常に美しかった。

    "This temple is a sub-temple of Sennyuji Temple, the head temple of the Sennyuji sect of Shingon Buddhism. It was also a mortuary temple of the imperial family. Established in 1223, the ancient temple venerates the Joroku Shakanoryaizo, a 10-meter-tall statue of Gautama Buddha, which survived the fires of the Onin War, as its principle object of worship. Legend has it the substance that appears to be running from the neck of the statue is a bloodstain from when the statue took the place of Emperor Go-Mizunoo to protect him from an assassination attempt while he slept. Based on this legend, the statue became revered as the ""migawari no oshakasama,"" meaning ""the substitute Bhudda."" The faithful believe that it takes the place of people to protect them from evil and that it cures sicknesses of the neck and above. Even today the statue is affectionately called Joroku-san, which means ""a large Buddha statue."""

    泉涌寺の山内にある寺の一つ。釈迦如来の立像が有名だそうだが、今回は中に入らなかった。本堂は改装中のようで、なぜか鬼瓦が外に展示されてあった。

    This temple began in 1655, early in the Edo period, from the thatched cottage of representative priest of Nichiren Buddhism, Gensei Shonin. The priest's love of bamboo led to this temple being called Chikuyou-an, or bamboo leaf temple. The temple grounds are full of things to see, like the Gensei Shonin no Gobyo (Three Bamboo Stalk Grave) that offers help with making or breaking ties, or the wealth-bringing Hakuryu Zeniarai Benzaiten. In spring the weeping cherry blossoms and Yoshino cherry blossoms are popular with visitors coming to enjoy the blossoms.

    ここは元政庵と云う号を冠した日蓮宗寺院です。江戸時代の日蓮宗を代表する高僧の元政、草山和尚が開創、深草に居住していた。元々は毛利輝元の家臣の五男として生まれたらしい。茅葺屋根が特徴の質素な寺院です。ここの庭園はなかなか綺麗に手入れがされている。

    "This is a sub-temple of Sennyu-ji temple, founded during the Daido era (806-810) by Kobo Daishi. The wide Kojin-do hall holds Japan's oldest wooden statue of the seated Kojin, divinity of the hearth. Once, the Kogo hall was a place to pray for safe childbirth, and it is still visited by pilgrims praying for the same. The temple grounds hold Kobo Daishi Dokkosui, a well, is said to have been sprung by Kobo Daishi using a Buddhist alter article called ""dokko,"" and the tea house Gansuiken, founded by Yoshio Oishi of the 47 Ronin. The tea house is small but filled with unique atmosphere, and its late-fall scenery has made it a popular hidden fall foliage spot."

    泉涌寺の塔頭の一つで泉涌寺道を上がって行くと途中に山門がありました。こじんまりした境内の寺院でしたが、洛陽三十三所第25番札所となっており御朱印もスムーズに記入していただけました。

    京阪鳥羽街道駅から5−6分。住宅街の中にあるお寺さんです。夜間、早朝以外は常時開放されているので、拝観は気軽にできます。ここだけわざわざいくのは大変でしょうから、徒歩圏の伏見稲荷と一緒にいくのもいいと思います。
