    This Kyoto obanzai shop on the restored first floor of a machiya (townhouse) which was used as the residence of the female owner-manager, has seating that includes views of the inner courtyard as well as horigotatsu (recessed, heated floor seats), and the restaurant has a relaxed home-style atmosphere. The obanzai, which is perfected by the okami’s preferred raw materials and seasonings, is Kyoto-style home cooking that is easy on the body. The limited lunch set is popular for allowing guests to try four types of obanzai dishes with tempura, soy milk gratin or namafu (wheat gluten) dengaku (tofu (or fish, etc.) baked and coated with miso) and rice all at once. The closest station is Kawaramachi Station.

    This restaurant is located on Rokkaku Street a three-minute walk from Saiin Station. Look for its red door curtain and paper lanterns. The restaurant serves heart-warming obanzai (Kyoto-style home cooking). Its counter is packed with a stunning selection of around 25 dishes such as simmered bamboo shoots in the spring, or blanched eggplant in a soy-based broth in the summer, sweet-potato vines cooked in sugar and soy sauce in the fall, and simmered Yodo round daikon in the winter. Guests can choose which of the seasonal obanzai made with seasonal vegetables on display they wish to eat. Many people purchase their additive and artificial color-free chirimen-sansho (a preserve of dried young sardines and Japanese pepper) to take home as a side dish for rice or as an appetizer to enjoy with drinks.

This dish, which comes strongly recommended by the owner, features large Kamonasu eggplants that have been sliced and quick-fried before being broiled with flavorful glaze of two different varieties of miso paste.
